Default The Spam problem...

Hi,

as i saw quite much spam over the last weeks here at occ, maybe admins should check new members posts before they are visible to all. That means, new members threads/posts have to be approved by some admin/mod first, before the thread/post can be seen by all members.

Is that possible with vbulletin software?

This spam is really annoying!

Greetz,
franzibert

We delete it when we see it. We're doing the best we can. Just ignore it, and we'll get to it eventually. We don't have a 24 hour Mod system here, and we're not robots. We're human just like you, doing the best job we can.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi there,

fango, cool down, that was no criticism at all!

In fact, i wouldn't click on those spam links, but i thought of other members who take occ as their only source of amateur porn (as it's the biggest and maybe best amateur site on the net) who might just click on those links.

I just thought it would be a good thing for admins and users.

But no problem if you think it's no good idea.

Greetz,
franzibert

At present the only system we have open to us is the removal if/when we see it. When you come accross spam links you could maybe help us out by replying to it stating its spam so less knowledgable members know to avoid clicking it.

Most spam links are deleted within 12 hours of being posted, often a good bit less so it isn't the major problem some sites have thakfully. None of us here are paid in any way and just do it as we love the site so obviously we can only check so much.

Thanks for the thought though. Its this kind of camarederie amongst our members that makes OCC what it is.

Spam is dramatically increasing on all forums. Unfortunately, short of shutting down registrations (or blanket denying entire email domains) there isn't much the staff at OCC can do other then ban them as they come along.

All us members can do is report the post when we see them and maybe leave a note in the thread to warn other users that may not spot it as being spam.

BTW...it is possible with vBulletin (new users can be set to Moderation Queue), but it would create a bunch of work for the admins (and moderators if they are given that ability here). Given that users can report the spam as they come up, I'm not sure the OCC admins need or want that extra work.
