Default Tracked down by image exif data

I had a scary moment when sharing pics with a guy I met online. He was cool, but when I had sent him 20+ faceless photos to stay anonymous. He new my home address some how

I was super scared, but the guy was respectful and promised not to do anything with it

After questioning him about this, he was using a online tool to view the photo meta/exif data, and since I am using an iphone, the gps coordinates are included in that info

Since this discovery I have been using this tool stripmeta(dot)io to look at the metadata on photos I like, and also to remove the data form my pics..

Is this common knowledge? or is it just me? Most sites remove this automatically, but im surprised of how many amateur photo sharing sites do not do this?

"Is this common knowledge? or is it just me?"

Probably somewhere in between, but be aware it's not always totally accurate and can be spoofed.

Don't use online Websites to remove the Exif Data. They get your pictures when you do that.

I don't have an iPhone, so I can't recommend an App. Search "exif" on appstore.

For Android, use the Fossify Gallery or scrambled exif.

Default ExifTool

I use ExifTool from the command line to remove sensitive metadata, such as GPS location, camera details, and timestamps, from the photo before sharing it. You do need to be comfortable in the terminal, if you don't know what a terminal or command line is forget about it.

Or just screengrab the image and send that.

Be careful with internet advice.

If you screen grab then check the info saved by your device in screenshots. My phone saves the software version, enough to identify my phone. A software that wipes everything is the better choice.
