Oodeys hairdressers in Teignmouth, Devon. According to the local papers, the girls got the idea of doing the calendar after their boss took them to see 'Calender Girls' in the theatre.
'It started off as a staffroom giggle, but it ended up being one of the best, most liberating things we've ever done' said boss Ally.
'I had to use all my powers of persuasion on a couple of the girls, especially one who had just had a baby.'
'We had to black out the windows at the salon to make sure there were no peeping toms and we all had a few gin and tonics to steady the nerves'
The calendar was in aid of the Eve Appeal.

I was down in Exeter earlier this week and took a chance and popped down to Teignmouth to see if the still had any calendars left. Really glad I took the time to go. The girls in the salon were very nice and quite surprised and pleased I had gone out of my way a buy their calendar - they said it should come in a brown paper bag not a white envelope!
They told me they had really enjoyed doing the calendar and had found the experience very liberating - to the extent that five of them had done a sponsored nude swim in the sea early in the morning on New Years Day, also in aid of the Eve Appeal (obviously not so worried about peeping toms now!). They did also say that they wouldn't be doing the swim again as the water was freezing, the wind was blowing and it was trying to rain. Not only that but the girl looking after their towels and robes thought it would be funny to take their things out to the end of the pier forcing one of the girls to walk naked and shivering onto the pier to retrieve them while the others cowered in the sea. Needless to say, a sixth girl ended up taking a nude dip in the sea that morning!

You can see the dark haired ones nipple in the group shot and her thigh has been shopped in the full body one, presumably to remove bush...

I'm jealous of your ability to go to these places to buy these calendars straight from the makers. But I really admire your ability to discuss the calendars with them in person. It's one thing to do interviews via email or facebook, it's a whole 'nother thing to find out info in person.

Wish I could have been there for the swim! - it would have been worth a whole thread on it's own. By the way, I'm pretty sure the lady who made the naked trek to the end of the pier was the one doing the hair styling in the November picture - at least judging by how red she went they were talking, and by the way the other girls seemed to be teasing her about it.

I'm lucky that I have been able to visit the places to buy the calendars.
Regarding chatting to the participants when buying the calendars, I've generally found it quite easy, but that's probably because I have been mainly buying from groups and teams who want the public to buy them. Mostly the people concerned are really pleased that I'm buying their calendar and are quite happy to chat about it, with little encouragement from me. I'm glad to pass the information on, and hope it's adding to the enjoyment of the photos, not boring everyone to death!
I always feel that students would rather sell their calendars to fellow students and, rightly or wrongly, don't really feel so comfortable talking to them.

Also, following up on what firstwnat said about the student calendars: One of the calendars I'm still trying to purchase I got back the reply that it's "by students, for students", so that is certainly the ethic for some of the student calendars. Yet, at other schools, they seem more than happy to have outsiders support their charity.

I wonder, in cases like this, if you could pretend to be an alumnus, or maybe someone who used to go to the school but transfered/dropped out, but still wants to support them...

Go on and on for a while about how much you want to support their charity/organization. Talk about the nudity aspect as little as possible. But don't overdo it, or they'll surely suspect your true intentions.

edit: If they ask why an American is interested in a British calendar, maybe claim you have a good friend/relative that lives in the area or went to that school.
