A friend of mine... I posted her pictures elsewhere on the net and also in the clothed/unclothed thread here.

My understanding from her is that one is Jewish if descent is from one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Being "Jewish" is passed down via the male lineage, not the female. In other words, if I was Jewish and had a kid with a non-Jew, then my son or daughter would not be considered Jewish. If I was a Gentile and had a kid with a Jew, our sons or daughters could be considered Jewish.

One may convert to Judaism, but that doesn't make the convert "Jewish". It's a bloodline, not an option...

Not quite accurate. It's a lot more complicated and would probably take much more time and space to explain than I want to devote. For one thing, it depends who you ask. Modern Jews do recognize conversions; some traditional Jews do not, or may only recognize one performed according to their own rules. This isn't much of an issue in the U.S, but in Israel it's a major one.

And the lineage does pass through the female, not the male.
