This sounds to me quite a bit like Bard College on the Hudson River. Isolated. Elite. Liberal. I had heard that they had cracked down on the nudity at bennington, but Bard I think is still OK. I believe I have a quote about Bard in my Campus naked run thread. I will look and link to it, although we're getting a bit off topic for this thread...

EDIT: the link -

anyway, what I really meant to do was post these pics in case they have not been posted before. These came up in a search for The Naked Office.

What was the name of "naked guy" in California back in the early 1990s? He used to go to his college classes completely nude until nudity was outlawed or something. Nevermind, I found out who he was.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Martinez

Quote:
Martinez, who typically attended classes wearing only sandals and a backpack, became a cause célèbre at the university for a while, sparking a number of nude-ins on campus and performances by the Bay Area nudist group the X-Plicit Players. He appeared on national talk shows, was profiled in a photo essay in Playgirl and was parodied in the 1994 college comedy PCU. Inspired in part by Martinez' actions, UC Berkeley issued its "Policy Statement Concerning Public Nudity and Sexually Offensive Conduct" banning public nudity on December 7, 1992.[3]

Then neither employed nor furthering his education, Martinez continued living in Berkeley, and was arrested for public nudity by the city. He fought those charges and won. For many months, it was legal to walk around nude in Berkeley and he went further, attending a City Council meeting naked. The city adopted an anti-nudity ordinance in July 1993.[4] Martinez and some of his supporters then showed up at a City Hall meeting in the buff and he became the first person arrested under the new city ordinance.[5] He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and got two years’ probation.
He apparently started suffering from schizophrenia-like symptoms and killed himself in jail.

I remember when he made big news. There was a picture of him sitting naked in a desk in class with a bunch of people around him.

It is interesting to see some states without public nudity laws because where I live, it has been outlawed forever. Technically, it is legal for a child age 9 years or under to go naked at the beach. But none ever do. The last time I saw that was when I was probably about 8 years old and then it was a toddler.

I wouldn't mind nudity at the beach or in designated park areas, but I don't want to see guys with their balls hanging out walking down the street.

The fact that the city of Berkeley had to adopt anti-nudity laws because of him shows you how stupid, self-centered and counter productive was his whole operation. If you are going to be a pioneer, you have to use your head because this scenario has been played out many times. Lax nudity laws can be easily reversed in a matter of weeks. This is also why Oregon may end up being less tolerant of nudity in a few years if Earth Friend Gen continues to prance around naked all over the state. One person can wreak a hell of a lot of damage...

I really don't think that naked anywhere, anytime is ever going to be a realistic goal for the body freedom advocates. Set your sights lower, because if you adopt that attitude, many people are going to begin to feel legitimately threatened - they will be scared to leave the house with their kids, they will be scared to go to the store, etc, etc. I support nudity in public parks within designated zones, and limited nudity in the streets (generally associated with an event). Also, the pioneers that get naked to test the laws are OK, as long as they don't threaten to stay naked day after day after day...

Anyway, Martinez was not a BF advocate, just a kook and more like an exhibitionist streaker.

Thats how over 1200 people will be naked in London next month on their bikes, and how people stood naked on the plinth.

I think if someone chooses to take offense, and challenges it, then it must stop.

The basic point is the law is not clear, but being nude in public is not in itself an offense.

Balls of Steel had a "Naked Man" who just did nude in public, but then there was the naked rambler, who kept getting stopped - I think he may even have been prosecuted.

Moreover, anyone choosing to walk naked down a high street "for the fun of it" MIGHT be subject to some police attention. Nudity in public is NOT legally protected- I think things like the naked bike ride rely on strength in numbers, and generally being a "offical" event.

So, has anybody found any other pictures of this yet? I find it hard to believe that nobody but an official news organization took pictures of this. Surely there must have been some camphones out and snapping away.

There were also prosecutions in the North of England, for outdoor "indecentcy" , so it's kind of confusing.
