Help with DVD ripping, editing

Hi all,

Can someone recommend me a good and free DVD ripper? I don't have any experience with it and need some suggestions.

I have some really good movie clips (really good) and want to share with everyone here.

Also a (free) movie editor recommendation would also be nice. I'm using Windows Movie Maker but that always puts those black bars on the edited clip which sucks.

My OS is Windows.
