I have a Sony HD cam and the requirements for the software is windows XP SP3 or higher, P4 2.8 GHz or higher, memory 1GB is recommended. My comp is XP SP3 P4 3.2 with 1 GB and 128 video over 5 years old. With the first cam and software I only had a little stutter the first playthough but no problem when played again. 2nd cam came with updated software and I can't even use it for playback. Sony says it's a codex issue (conflicting with codex packs). That may be your problem. I would do the comp. I'm going to try to update soon to a win 7 quad core (recommended for editing HD) with at least 4gb mem and 1 gb video card.

Thanks for the feedback.....

Seems I am below spec. I am amazed at how long my Vaio has lasted. I have updated the hardrive, video card in the past and have just upgraded the memory but besides a cd drive failure it has been a good system.

Of course now that I am posting this something is gonna blow....

I notice the newer video cards are switching to a new type of slot I dont even have in my system.
