My research (i.e. watching hundreds of hours of amateur porn) indicates that the norm for college girls in the year 2009 is to have completely shaved pussies. Not merely trimmed or the Playboy "landing strip," but totally bald.
Sociological question: how did this new fashion get spread? In other words, how do girls learn that they are suppose to shave their pussies bald? Teenage girls know to shave their legs and armpits because their mothers teach them shortly after puberty, and/or because they can see that other women are shaved in those spots. But I doubt any mom is telling her daughter to shave her pussy -- not just because it would be a strange subject for mother and daughter to address, but also because any woman who is old enough to have a teenage daughter is probably old school herself, with a traditional bush, and not aware that the current fashion is for bald crotches. I guess high school and college girls must talk amongst themselves about it. I also wonder if the increased social acceptability of "sexting" and webcam naughtiness has not only helped spread the fashion, but also maybe part of the cause. Perhaps girls think to themselves: "If I'm going to take a picture of my coochie or make a masturbation vid for my boyfriend, I want my pussy to look it's nicest and cleanest, so I'll shave it."
