Tichavský tuleň - a Klondike super-special.

Haven't seen these before - Stumbled upon this weird yearly Czech or Slovak festival - Tichavský tuleň.

Lousy google translations haven't help out much - but it seems to be some sort of local custom of a town (which the town isn't too keen on sanctioning) on the Czech and Slovak border. It is also somehow a Christian based ceremony (which apparently the church isn't really too interested in recognizing).

In any case groups of locals strip off, stumble down a steep embankment and slosh around in a rather fast moving river. Oh yes - all in the middle of winter.

There appears to be a theme to the event and here is the complete crap google translation of this years theme:

Nudity is opposed shaving
"Quiet - hairy corners, endangered cultural heritage of ancestors. That was the motto of the eleventh annual event recesistické Tichavský seal, which took place shortly after noon yesterday in the Pacific. Despite the logs on the river below the weir Tichávce be passed more than ten Naked enthusiasts."

This is great There is so much unique and awesome stuff out there yet to be discovered, it warms my heart

I think this would be one search term to try in a .cz photo sharing site. Seems not too long ago I came across one, but I don't have the link anymore. it really is enough, though, to get me interested in compiling a list of foreign photo sharing sites. Then maybe we can get more pics up, and learn about other "festivals" like this.

Saved the best pics for last, I see....

With these pics of yours, you can see people, streets, houses, etc on the opposite bank. That wasn't in evidence in TheRocket's pics due to the fact that the photog was probably stationed on that shore. But its interesting because it makes this little event a lot more public now than I had thought earlier. Its really right in town..

Okay, the last I've been able to find (and without a new lead to follow, I'm probably done!) is this sequence, in different sizes because different photographers had pieces; non-nude, but still revealing, featuring the one woman from this year who ventured out onto the log, with these results:
