Lightbulb Request: Camera Help

For those of you contributing your own original content, how and where do you hide your cameras? Any good tips will lead to a good contribution from me, thanks.

.....that you will post here, right? - because the thread needs pics otherwise the mods may move it to the site feedback forum.

Otherwise, its a interesting topic. Some guys hide their camera in towels that they carry under their arm as they walk about the beach. That is the mobile solution. Backpacks work pretty well if you are stationary. Put the camera in there under a t-shirt or something, with the open end of the bag facing out. When you want to shoot, just lift the t-shirt.

I hope you don't go the tent route. Tent photogs rank very low on my list.

One idea i thought of but never tried: Get a large, clear plastic ziplock bag and fill it with trash - you know, napkins, soda bottles, wrappers, junk etc. Make sure it is clean trash. Stick your camera in there. cut a small hole in the bag for the lens to to peer through. The rest of the camera is presumable hidden by the trash. Prop the bag up on a cooler or something, and shoot while pretending to reach for something in the bag. You will not be able to aim so it is sort of blind shooting. Hopefully you are taking big pics and can crop down later. Try not to get only sky and water in your pics.

The above approach is for shooting in close quarters on relatively crowded beaches. Now on a little used beach, its usually necessary to shoot longer range with a telephoto while actually aiming your camera. Try a shady spot by a rock or bush with the sun at your back. People looking your way won't be able to see you very well if at all. Just be discrete, move slowly, and try to look like you are not doing what you are doing.

anyway, it can get pretty creative, but you can get into trouble if you try to be too cute and "inventive", so keep it relatively simple because people tend to pay attention to any type of odd activity.

All the shots I take have a "model" in the foreground, not a pro model, but someone I have brought along for the purpose. This has a couple of key benefits:
- Each shot has an attractive women front and centre, at minimum.
- I am open about shooting, I can focus, etc. If anyone complains about being in the background, I say too bad, I was taking her photo, not yours. That way I do not appear to be a voyeur.

Thanks for the advice so far, but I should have been more clear. I was looking for tips for a more...domestic setting, ie a bathroom or shower.

oh.....

I guess sitting on the toilet with the camera in your backpack balanced on the sink wouldn't be quite discrete enough, right?

Heh, not only would that not be discrete but it doesn't really make much sense either. This was more of a question for the Voyeur section but since I didn't add any images it was moved here...
