I've only been to one key party before on a trip we took down south a couple years ago. Absolutely loved it.
The party was with a group that my partner Kate used to play with - when she was still with her ex.

This party, 6 couples, 4 play rooms (2 rooms were for a single couple only, 2 were doubles for 2cpls & sharing)
Guys picked the play partner from one box. The girls picked the room from another box.
