It's not actually removing any censorship (you could ask the same AI to unblur a face and get different faces each time). I don't begrudge people enjoying AI images, but the audience isn't always the same as the audience for actual photos.

To add to your point about "unblurring", just blur your own face with photoshop and then ask AI to unblur.

You'll immediately realize that AI is just making shit up

That was a special case of using a filter that hid the image, instead of destroying it. The filter basically just moved pixels around in a predictable pattern. Investigators reversed the process to put the pixels back where they started and the image was restored.

AI unblurring won't do that though, it will just mask out the blurred area and invent a new image to replace it. A sophisticated AI will make an educated guess and produce something consistent with the blurred area, but if the information has been destroyed, no process can restore it.
