A tech section would be nice to draw on the brain pool. All my codecs are corrupt and I would love some help.

oops left that out. downloaded k-lite, community and satsuki. none of them worked. it appears the corrupt codecs wont budge. im in the registry now for about two hours deleting every "video" entry remotely related to mpeg, avi, flv etc and decompressor. Im crossing my fingers I dont delte any monitor required files. Otherwise im ok. I have so much video software that I have enough codecs. movies 2004, ati catlyist software, vlc, pinnacle installed (skipping pinnacle files in delete).
so as long as computer is running...and monitor .... |

I deleted all my codecs after repeated tries. I used video inspector to id the codecs. then i used search function in regedit to find each one. I uninstalled all my video programs. I ran cccp and pow same error. I ran satsuki no error but no play of any vids. I tried to reinstall my video programs. ati catalyist installed but the capture option isnt working I reinstalled my favorite and only useful video editing program movies 2004 and it keeps giving me an error to restart with disc over and over. I think I deleted a file I shouldnt have.
Im running xp pro but I only have xp home here. so im thinking reformat c: and then intall xp home and then upgrade to xp pro. I have two processors so i have to use xp pro or the second processor is useless. ..... wtf |

i've given up
with my last 2 pc's including current, i installed the K-Lite Codec Pack and while obviously the wmp does play more content, it does however cause the wmp to crash when playing certain .avi files, and then the system has a hissy fit and the folder in which the avi clip was stored also crashes and dissappears. And since , the wmp will not play in Full Screen for any movie format..it will go to full screen for 2 or 3 sec but only with the original movie size at the top left, and then it will either revert back or crash altogether ![]() I re-installed wmp with no luck, so the prob lies deeper As i am not cluey enough to tinker around with the registry(even though you can do a 'System Restore' if you fuk up, i don't have the patience), i now use vlc which plays everything, including broken avi clips and i am more than happy with this little gem ![]() But I always keep thinking back if i installed one too many codecs and are now conflicting.. i have nfi

well im happy to say that k lite came thru for me. spent all day messing w registry w no luck. I tried k lite again and it went nuts detecting broken codecs. it deleted them all and now plays vids just fine. I even installed my capture software - ati catylist. However my fav editing program magix movies on cd & dvd 2004 keeps giving me a "restart with cd" I do and it gives me the same message.....

i posted a link about codecs here
https://forum.oneclickchicks.com/showthread.php?t=5218 you can use that tool to find out what codecs you need, and it also gives you all the video info. Theres a web button that will send you to a page to download the codec you need for most videos. regards CP. . |
