Not quite a stash story but probably not worth a thread of it own...

Being a teenager in the 80's meant neighborhood video rental stores. I joined one when I was 17 so technically I couldn't rent X rated movies. But being a regular I became friendly with one lady that worked at the store. The way this store was set up, the empty VHS boxes were on the shelves. There wasn't a separate porn section, they were just on the top shelf throughout the store. My mum and dad had a pretty decent stash when I was growing up. This consisted of a fair number of magazines, some fairly kinky ones and some contact mags. Not to mention quite a lot of polaroids and photos. As you can imagine, quite eye opening, not to mention educational. I'm guessing after a while, they figured out that I'd been viewing, as they began locking the bedroom door, when they were out. However, I always found ways around it.

After my mum passed away, my dad re-married. Although, as expected, the old stash he had with mum disappeared, a new one appeared. Quite surprising really, as outwardly my step mother is quite shy and reserved. By then, things had moved on from print to more modern media. Stored in a shoe sized box, plenty of DVDs. Back before the internet stashing porn was common. I remember as a single guy having a stash of porn of course always magazines. Growing up in the 60s and 70s that’s all a guy had available sometimes National Geographic gave you a glimpse of tits and that was wonderful.

I once ordered massage oil from a playboy card in a friends copy of an issue of playboy. (It used to be mail in cards). Somehow - after never buying an issue, I started received a complimentary subscription to Playboy. For over 10 years, I never paid for an issue, but received it every month. I found it one year in the publication stats that they had 1,800 or so complimentary subscriptions. To this day, I will never understand how 8 dollars of massage oil got me on a seemingly never-ending subscription. I had collected so many great issues. One year, they started sending me a postcard letter with a postcard that I could send in if I didn't want to receive them anymore. I would always grab it and throw it away, immediately.

One year, my now ex-wife, decided our kids were old enough that it would be a detriment to have them. So she packed up my collection and threw them out. We moved shortly after that and I think that triggered the end of my free playboys. Obviously, my enjoyment of this site shows I haven't given up my admiration of a beautiful naked woman.

OK, so things varied over the years. Some times it wasn't so much a porn stash as a "what I could scrounge together" stash. A few Sports Illustrated issues, checked out a few art & photography books and photocopied them on the copier in my parent's business office. Some underwear and swimsuit sections of some catalogs, though those were rare because my mom always tried to keep the big Sears catalogs in a stack. There was also the mailers that Playboy used to send out to try & get people to subscribe, showing some covers of issues & a promise of a special gift like a Playboy keychain. There were also some of the knickknack catalogs which would have stuff that would now be called "As Seen on TV", but would also have things like hi-ball glasses that stripped when you put ice in them. I used to stare at them and dream. Occasionally I'd get luck on my paper route and find a Playboy peaking out of a garbage can or some Hustler in a ditch, missing it's cover & centerfold. I'd try to keep them but they inevitably disappeared. I'm not sure if my Mom found them or my younger brother swiped them. It was kinda this little dance until I was old enough to buy them on my own.

Actually I managed to pick one up a few days before my 18th birthday. I was a regular at a newstand for comic books and I decided to try my luck and bought a Playboy. She asked when I turned 18 and I said a couple days ago. She congratulated me and never bothered checking my ID. Still grateful for getting away with that.

My other source was the combination of our VCR and the occasions we had an HBO subscription. Would check the ratings in the HBO guide, find shows that had (nudity) or (sexual situations) listed, set the VCR to record overnight and pull the tape out before anyone checked the VCR. Then check the movie in Fast-Forward mode to find the good stuff when I was sure the parent's weren't home. Saw a lot of trash that way.

We did stumble on some actual porn tapes. I still remember the movies and the order they were on the tapes. I always tried to be careful, making sure the tape was rewound back to the previous spot and putting it back. My brother, not so much. Left it with the rest of the tapes on the TV. My folks once even put one of the unmarked tapes in with my grandparents in the room. It got ejected at light speed.

I've still got most of my old magazines, mostly in storage. My computer porn collection started in the early 90's, when I finally got an ISP account. Lots of things from newgroups. Quickly ran out of room on my hard drive, so the collection moved to boxes of floppy disks, then ZIP drives, then burned on CDs. Now they are on a 2 terabyte drive.

My wife has no problem with my porn collection. Her's tends to be a collection of text files of fanfiction.

Most of my early jobs were working on the farms of my neighbors. My first non-agricultural job was working at a gas station/convenience store/boat shop a few miles from our farm. My main job was manning the gas pumps, though I also worked as a stock clerk in the convenience store. And, of course, there was no way I could stroke myself while I was reading the stories on the job. I had to wait until bedtime and remember what I had read.
