I can find the pictures, but the quality of them is horrible. Where can I see more of the good quality pictures of those years? Where did people find those?

I think I can answer this, as I dug into this same question a while back, when I saw the high-res photos floating around here and in other sites. As those of us who have been here a while know, the Ur source for most of the Kapsejlads pics is:

It’s basically a photo-sharing site where both the media and public can obtain photos of local (Aarhus) newsworthy events. Most of what we have here seems to have originated from there before being reposted in blogs, news stories, social media, etc. What was frustrating to us at the time was that the images publicly available on the site were awesome but also really, really small.

But what we didn’t realize back then, due I think primarily to the fact that no one here spoke/read Danish, was that it was fairly easy to create an account on the site, and once that was accomplished you could actually buy full-sized versions of any of the images for like $5 a pop. I’m sure if we knew that at the time, we’d have bought the whole lot. The bad news is that since then the purchase option for the Kapsejlads galleries has been disabled, though it remains enabled for other galleries on the site.

Anyway, I assume the reason we have at least some full-sized photos is because somebody figured out they could just buy them, but didn’t tell anyone else.

I’m guessing the rest of the full-sized versions are still there on the site, just completely inaccessible. If someone, somehow were to figure out a way to access them, that would be the score of the decade…

You can email their support with the direct photos, what your intentions to do with them are, etc. and they can still give you the full resolution versions (still requires them to be purchased of course).
