This film I came across just by chance when TalkingPicturesTV in the UK broadcast it a few weeks ago. Originally it was from a documentary on the film studio Danziger that I actually knew of it's existance and what is remarkable about this is that it included genuine aspiring English actresses, rather than nudists to play the roles. The film was The Nudist Story (also known as Pussycat's Paradise, and For Members Only in the USA) from 1960 and it is a time capsule of sweet gentile British films on the tail end of the 1950's (oh, if only they'd got Susan Stephen for the part!). As it is, the actress cast for the lead role was Shelley Martin in what was her first - and seemingly only - role.

To give the jist of the plot, Shelley played a prim uptight woman who inherited her grandfather's fortune and land, one of which she discovers is a nudist camp whose lease grandfather has failed to renew. She is horrified when one of the men from the nudist camp, Brian Cuddy, turns up (clothed, I may add) to ask her to extend their license, only for her to refuse. However, he asks he to at least look at the place and judge for herself and despite her misgivings she goes and begins to change her mind - partly due to the fact she secretly fancies him.

There is a lot of nudity for a film of this age, and a genuine mainstream film at that. So much so I decided to compile separate videos of the three main actresses who bare all on here - Shelley Martin, Carol Sutton and Jacqueline D'Orsay - as well as a video of clips of the other naked extras. Shelley Martin is first and she totally fits the prim English rose role in this. There is one scene when she first goes to the nudist camp where she asks Brian Cuddy if she will have to take her clothes off. Oh yes, she will and she does and the nervousness when she first undresses is beautifully judged. What is also enjoyable is knowing from an interview with Brian Cuddy that all of the cast tried to keep it quiet on their CV that they had ever done this film, due to their embarrassment of the nudity. As a film itself, it may be dated but it is beautifully sweet and old fashioned, and it makes seeing actresses from the tail end of the 1950's baring all in an era when they would never of expected to do so.

The second actress to disrobe for the mainstream British film The Nudist Story (1960) is Carol Sutton, a sweet redhead who also made her debut here and like poor Shelley Martin never got any further in her acting career. Or maybe they were so embarrassed they dared not audition for other work lest they should be recognized? They shouldn't of been, as Carol clearly shows her talents here (so to speak) as the "good girl" nudist. There were other nude scenes of her in the Shelley Martin section, but this contains her separate nude scenes and shows her as a marked contrast with her petite and small statistics to the more volumptuous Shelley Martin that highlights the different shapes and sizes in the film (though they are nearly all young, it seems). I felt it better to do these videos separate as to upload all the scenes in one video would either of taken an age or might of passed the 1GB of file size that I could upload. Besides, for fans of Carol and of redheads, you can view her in her own little video. She really should of got more roles - let's face it, if you are prepared to bare all for a role back in those days you deserve a break. Sadly it was't forthcoming for either Carol or Shelley, but at least we have these videos to admire their talents in.

The 3rd main actress who appeared in The Nudist Story is Jacqueline D'Orsay, a French actress who unlike the other two ladies had actually appeared in other things before doing this, such as in the BBC Sunday Night Theatre drama The Makepeace Story (1955) and the TV sitcom Double Cross in 1956. However this was probably her biggest part (no pun intended) as she bared off for her art as the "bad girl" who fancies Brian Cuddy and is none too pleased when he falls for prim posh Shelley Martin and tries to put a spanner in the works (sounds painful, I know). Interestingly looking at Jacqueline's figure she looks as if she has breast implants - either that or she was unusually shaped! Surely breast implants weren't around then?

My final video compilation from The Nudist Story (1960), a genuine mainstream British film from that era and featuring genuine actresses having to bare all way before any actress would of expected to do so, these feature the extras who appeared in the film. Whether they themselves were nudists or some aspiring actress hoping to make it in the film industry I don't know, but I thought that members on here would like to see them anyway. As mentioned, most of the main cast were so embarrassed about doing this they often avoided including this on their CV, but viewed today - and if you are lucky to find a copy of the film online, check it out - it is rather a sweet if dated film that is reminiscent of old British films of the 1950's. It just makes fascinating viewing seeing such actresses of that period appearing naked, with all their gentile clipped accents. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the videos.
