Thumbs up brightening an mpg file

i have some mpg files that need way to dark. could yall tell me a GOOD FREE program i can use to brighten them?

thankx in advance for any help......

Two free programs that come to mind that work perfectly for that are windows movie maker and bs player.

virtualdub is a good tool for doing a lot of editing, and its free http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/

drag the video into virtualdub, then just choose the "level" filter to brighten the video.

i'd have to recommend GOM Player again...lets you easily adjust brightness/contrast on the fly.

i would say virtualdub also, if you actually want to save the brightened video that is.

if you just want to keep upping the brightness when playing it, then media player will do.
