I remember our holiday to Denmark some years ago.
Some late afternoon in summer, we ended up on a more remote beach which was busy, but not too crowded. mainly visited by locals by looking at the number plates in the parking lot. Ours was the only non-Danish. Space between people laying on the beach was about 15 feet.
While walking down the beach to find a spot, I was surprised to see no topless ladies at all. Surprised because we came across naked people often while hiking along secluded/thin crowded beaches (which is perfectly legal in Denmark).

So we finally found a spot and to my surprise, it was just behind a couple, mid forties I guess of which the lady was laying on her back topless. The only topless lady around. Quit pretty lady too. That is till my wife said, "well if she can go topless, I will too ... nobody knows me here anyway".
So now there we're 2 topless ladies ... and about 15m later, all of a sudden there were several more. Like the fact that 1 or 2 topless ladies were a start signal to join too.

So instead of waiting till one is not a minority of topless ladies, why not be the start of a majority of topless ladies?

I suspect the pendulum will swing the other way someday in ten or fifteen years, but not anytime soon. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

I have been in DR 6 times with first being 20 years ago. It was common back than for topless but even than it was closer to about 20% or a little less. It varied heavily depending on the resort and the number of families. I was an adult only resort and there it was at least 50% but if you walked down the beach there was almost none. I agree topless is way down but one thing I noticed this fall in the DR was that most of the guests were from South America. There are very few Europeans. The South Americans tend to keep their tops on and wear very small bottoms. The time I went before it was mostly Russians who also tend to keep their tops on.

There was a pair of older French couple in front of us and they would on occasion go topless. Talking to them, they said the Indonesia is the hot tourist place in Europe. In addition many due to economic/COVID conditions are staying in Europe on vacation.

The one thing I have always noticed is that Americans tend to do what others are doing. If the beach is mostly topless then they tend to go topless. If there are only a few then the tops stay on. You see this a lot in Spain and similar Mediterranean beaches.

I had a similar experience a few years ago in Southern France. I had expected to see many topless women there (it's where topless tanning was 'invented' after all), but initially there were none. After a while some woman arrived at the beach. She was in her early forties and she had a child with her. She was wearing a thong and she was the first to go topless. My girlfriend followed and a little while later another girl picked a spot near us and went topless too. I had actually seen her before when we walked by earlier (I had noticed her because she had stunningly beautiful blond hair).

I guess she didn't want to be the only one topless at her spot on the beach and therefore decided to move closer to us.

We were on holiday in Portugal earlier this year and would stroll along the promenade by the beach, it was late in the year so the beach wasn't very busy, not sure about the percentages but there were plenty on show topless even a few sunbathing topless on there own.

I'm afraid you are right, but if it takes 15 years it might be too late for me to care, ha. The trend of women showing their butts is interesting. It's everywhere now. We were on a boat tour in South America a while back and one young woman was wearing her thong bikini. Her butt was so curvy that the thong was hidden and she looked bare ass naked from behind (I did not complain). And of course there is the yoga pants craze. One lovely woman in the airport looked like her pants (and top) had been spray painted on. You can't not look at that. Its seems that 90% of young women (and some older ones) are showing their butts this way. It's a good trend, but I do miss the toplessness on beaches. We were at a nude beach in FL recently and some women only go topless there; other keep their entire bikini on, but showing the ass cheeks of course. That's trends for ya.

I never got round to telling this story and it is now a number of years ago. That holiday to Crete was the first of a number of times when I have been on holiday with Jane’s family, the most recent being last Summer when Jane and I went to Menorca for two weeks, the first of which Jane’s parents joined us for.

We stayed in separate apartments in a complex which had a couple of pools and was right on a busy public beach. The complex was very much a family friendly type of place and we didn’t actually spend that much time there as Jane and I like to explore and visit as many different beaches as possible. Jane’s parents were happy to do whatever we wanted to do.

Having not been on a summer/beach type holiday with Jane’s parents since Crete a number of years ago and with it just being the 4 of us this time (in Crete Jane’s sister Kate and her boyfriend at the time were also with us) I did not expect there to be much topless action and was waiting for the 2nd week of the holiday when it would just be Jane and I for that. Turns out I was wrong.

On the first day we went to a beautiful beach which had a small island just off the coast and where there was some good snorkelling. While not isolated the beach was not as busy as some as you had to walk to get to it. We got there around 11am and there were probably 20-30 other people already there. We found a spot and set up our mini beach camp (sun shades, beach chairs etc). Jane and I went straight in for a swim once set up as it was baking hot. As always Jane looked incredible in her bikini which was a basic string type bikini with smallish bottoms but nowhere near being a thong. Jane’s mum is incredible shape for a nearly 60 year old and you can very much see where Jane and Kate got their physiques from! As we headed into the sea Jane’s folks were just sitting down to chill for a bit after the exertions of the walk and the camp set up.

As Jane and I walked down to the sea I noticed that there were already quite a few topless woman on the beach, including one last who was walking out of the sea just as we walked in. Once wallowing in the warm Mediterranean water I asked Jane if she was planning to sunbathe topless. She said she would next week but didn’t feel comfortable doing so in front of her parents. I reminded her that she had done so before in Crete but she said that was a long time ago and as Kate had also been there had been safety in numbers. I didn’t push it as that seemed fair enough to me.

We headed back to join her parents and as soon as we did they got up to go for a swim. 10 minutes later they headed back towards us. Jane’s mum looked more like a 30-something year old than late fifties in her high cut bikini bottoms and designer bikini top. As they got back to where we were sitting Jane’s mum removed her bikini top before sitting down exclaiming that she hated the wet fabric on her chest when she was sunbathing. With her bikini top off she still looked very much like a woman much younger than her than she was as her boobs were still very firm and, while they had a bit of a sag to them, they were still very well shaped and of a good size. It had been 5 or so years since I had last seen Jane’s mum topless and as much as I tried to play it cool I can’t pretend I wasn’t slightly flustered!

After and hour or so we wanted lunch and decided to walk back up the car park where there was a small cafe. Jane had kept her top on while sunbathing and her mum had put her top back on each time she went for a swim. As we got ready to walk up to the cafe Jane declared that she didn’t want to wear a wet top and proceeded to remover her bikini top before pulling her T-shirt on. She made no attempt to hide her chest as she did this and was talking to her mum at the time and her dad was stood nearby waiting for us to get ready so would have had a good side on view. This did make me wonder what the afternoon would offer…

After lunch we got back to our beach camp and all being baking hot immediately went in for a swim. When we got out and got back to our spot Jane’s mum immediately removed her top and stood around drying herself and carrying on the conversation. I was talking to her dad and after a moment noticed that he had glanced past me a couple of times as we chatted. I turned around to find Jane standing behind me talking to her mum and she had removed her top and was also drying herself. She then sat down on one of the reclining beach chairs and carried on chatting away to her mum, clearly with no intention of putting her top back on.

Just like 5 years before in Crete I felt a strange mix of excitement, awkwardness and nervousness about the situation. Having Jane’s mum topless was strange as by now I knew her parents extremely well and spent a lot of time with them. Although I had seen her topless before, this time it felt slightly more surprising and exhilarating. And having Jane now topless too only added to those feelings. Her dad is a great guy and comparatively shy and softly spoken compared to his wife and his daughters and, presumably having also not seen Jane like this since Crete, was clearly battling some of the same emotions I was.

The afternoon moved on and I fell asleep. When I woke up the other three were asleep too, Jane lying on her front on a towel and her mum sitting in a beach chair with her head flopped forwards and to the side. Her position made her boobs sag lower than usual and with the heat I couldn’t help but notice that her nipples were much puffier than they had been when she took of her wet top. I decided to go for a swim. 5 or so minutes later I saw that Jane’s mum was awake and heading down to the sea. Watching her walk so nonchalantly down the beach while topless was quite a surreal site and as she got to the water she spotted me. I smiled and for a second she looked slightly embarrassed and moved her right arm to cover her boobs before clearly deciding not to lose her cool and dropping it again. She did however make her way into the water quickly and submerged herself so that only her head was above the water line well before she reached me.

We chatted like this for a few minutes before she rather out of nowhere said “I hope me being topless isn’t too weird and doesn’t make you uncomfortable. Tim (Jane’s dad) took many years to get fully comfortable with me being like this and to be honest I thought he was going to ask Jane and Kate to cover up when we were in Crete a few years ago”. I decided to be honest and said that while having your effective mother in law topless in front of you did take a bit of getting used to it didn’t make me feel uncomfortable in a bad way and I was just pleased that we could all be so at ease in each others company. Jane’s mum smiled and said that she thought some of her care free attitude to such things had rubbed of on her daughters. I asked if Tim would prefer Jane to keep her top on as I (and I’m sure Jane too) wouldn’t want him to be uncomfortable on his holiday. Jane’s mum said not to be silly and that Tim would settle down and get used to it again and that we weren’t to worry. The chat had clearly relaxed her as she was now kneeling in the shallow waters such that her boobs were above the water line. I couldn’t help but notice the clear similarities with Jane’s boobs albeit with a few additional signs of age on them. They were also completely brown with no tan lines (unlike Jane’s that were quite pronounced as we had not been away for a year and she never sunbathes topless in the UK).

Jane’s mum suddenly waved and I turned around to see Jane walking towards the water with her dad and her top back on. They joined us and we all spent the next 30 mins chatting and enjoying the water. Jane’s parents decided to get out with Tim leading the way. At the last second Jane quietly said “mum” and as her mum turned around Jane pulled the string behind her back and pulled her top off and gave it to her to take back to the beach. Jane’s mum smiled, took her top and followed Tim out of the water. Jane explained that she knew her being topless was a bit weird for her dad and when she had woken up and he was already awake and suggested joining us in the water she felt compelled to cover up before walking down to the water with him. I told her about my conversation with her mum and she seemed pleased that she had said her dad would relax and get used to it.

Having given her top to her mum, Jane had no choice but to walk back up the beach topless and as we neared her parents it was clear that Tim was quite surprised that she wasn’t wearing a top - he clearly hadn’t realised that she had given it to her mum. He glanced away as we got close and busied himself with something in his bag.

We left the beach soon after that with Tim packing up first as he wanted to nip to the loo in the cafe before driving back to our apartments (although I suspected he was avoiding the whole changing process as Jane had remained lying down since we got back from our swim). Jane’s mum pulled on her shorts and then started packing up her things while still topless. Seeing her half dressed but topless turned me on more than when she was wearing just bikini bottoms which seemed strange to me.

Day two brought a different beach and any remaining ice that needed to be broken between us all with respect to beach attire dissolved as the day went on. Jane swapped between top on and top off through the morning but each time we went swimming it was all 4 of us and Jane always kept her top on. I could see Jane flinch slightly as she read the situation and just as she looked like she was going to continue up the beach towards our stuff her mum gently took her by the arm and they stood their ground as we approached. We handed round the beers and Jane’s mum suggested we sat on the sand where the water was coming up to so that we could have our legs in the water and we drank our beers. We all sat down and before long were chatting and laughing. As the beers came to an end Tim asked if anyone would like another and we all said yes please! Tim got up and I was about to join him when Jane beat me to it and said “I’ll help you get them, Dad” and jumped up. Tim said “ok great” in a slightly stressed voice and they headed off. Watching them walk back a few minutes later was quite surreal. They were chatting away and Jane’s boobs were bouncing with each step. She looked absolutely fabulous and I genuinely think she had the most incredible pair of boobs on the whole beach. Tim had clearly relaxed and it was very much normal dad and daughter which was great to see.

The rest of the week was more beaches and Jane and her mum were topless the whole time. There was no awkwardness whatsoever and it was really refreshing for it to all feel entirely normal and, to be honest, no big deal at all. The only other interesting thing to note was that Jane clearly fed off and took a lead from her mum’s confidence. Within a couple of days she seemed every it as easy and confident as her mum and on a number of occasions I watched as she chatted to strangers with her mum while they were both topless. One time they were talking to a Dutch lady in the shallow water (she was wearing a full one piece) and having a good laugh when a man and a younger guy approached. I found out afterwards this was the ladies husband and step-son and she had insisted on introducing them to Jane and her mum. Jane shook hands with them both and told me later the young lad (she guessed 17 or 18) didn’t know where to look but kept clearly glancing at Jane’s chest! Jane just kept chatting away and even stood with her hands on her hips as if to underline her confidence!

Day two brought a different beach and any remaining ice that needed to be broken between us all with respect to beach attire dissolved as the day went on. Jane swapped between top on and top off through the morning but each time we went swimming it was all 4 of us and Jane always kept her top on. Jane’s mum was topless the whole time and I was impressed with how completely and utterly relaxed she was. It was clear she had been going topless for many many years and simply wasn’t a big deal to her. She spoke to other people in the sea and jumped up and one point to go over to a guy selling drinks on the beach to get us all a cold beer. She chatted to him topless as he got the beers out of his cool box and then struck up a conversation with another woman waiting to buy from him. The confidence she possessed made it hard for me to take my eyes off her, but not in a sexual way. It was just amazing watching her in this environment and so at ease and confident in herself.

We had a few more beers as the afternoon wore on which helped to loosen Jane’s inhibitions. Her mum and dad had gone for a swim and I suggested we also went in to cool off. Jane jumped up and this time made her way down to the water with me topless. Once in her mum and dad appeared back from a deeper swim and we all chatted in the deeper water. As we made our way to the shallow water I noticed that Jane was remaining submerged and presumed she was still uneasy about her dad. After a few minutes Tim suggested that he and I go and buy a couple more beers for everyone so we headed out the water leaving Jane and her mum behind chatting away.

We bought 4 beers and Tim suggested we take them down to the water. As we approached the ladies were just emerging from the water and hadn’t seen us. This was going to be the moment Jane either quickly chose to cover up or rode it out and broke the remaining awkwardness. I called her name and she and her mum and turned to see us. I could see Jane flinch slightly as she read the situation and just as she looked like she was going to continue up the beach towards our stuff her mum gently took her by the arm and they stood their ground as we approached. We handed round the beers and Jane’s mum suggested we sat on the sand where the water was coming up to so that we could have our legs in the water and we drank our beers. We all sat down and before long were chatting and laughing. As the beers came to an end Tim asked if anyone would like another and we all said yes please! Tim got up and I was about to join him when Jane beat me to it and said “I’ll help you get them, Dad” and jumped up. Tim said “ok great” in a slightly stressed voice and they headed off. Watching them walk back a few minutes later was quite surreal. They were chatting away and Jane’s boobs were bouncing with each step. She looked absolutely fabulous and I genuinely think she had the most incredible pair of boobs on the whole beach. Tim had clearly relaxed and it was very much normal dad and daughter which was great to see.

The rest of the week was more beaches and Jane and her mum were topless the whole time. There was no awkwardness whatsoever and it was really refreshing for it to all feel entirely normal and, to be honest, no big deal at all. The only other interesting thing to note was that Jane clearly fed off and took a lead from her mum’s confidence. Within a couple of days she seemed every it as easy and confident as her mum and on a number of occasions I watched as she chatted to strangers with her mum while they were both topless. One time they were talking to a Dutch lady in the shallow water (she was wearing a full one piece) and having a good laugh when a man and a younger guy approached. I found out afterwards this was the ladies husband and step-son and she had insisted on introducing them to Jane and her mum. Jane shook hands with them both and told me later the young lad (she guessed 17 or 18) didn’t know where to look but kept clearly glancing at Jane’s chest! Jane just kept chatting away and even stood with her hands on her hips as if to underline her confidence!

I will write another post about our 2nd week when it was just Jane and me.
