We both grew up in nudist homes and our families socialized frequently at home or at camp. My wife, her mother and sister all had the same pubic "hair style". A few of their friends, some only casual nudists, eventually followed suit. My mom and dad trimmed but never shaved.

Sort of the same story as Shower1000.
Current partner has shaved bare for years just for the look and we both loved it and the sensation and looks added excitement but more recently she has let it fill in and keeps it trimmed small.
