Here's an interesting film from 1991-- "There's Nothing Out There" (1991).

This was writer-director Rolfe Kanefsky's first film. It could be argued that it was Kanesky who first came up with the idea of the "self aware" horror movie. One of the characters in the film is a horror movie buff, and when he and his friends go to a secluded mountain cabin for the weekend, he warns them that they are just setting themselves up for a crazed killer.

In one scene, one of the characters grabs the mike boom and swings himself out of danger. This was even before "Scream" when political correctness was just setting in. The 90's were when horror film makers decided to replace nudity with self awareness and humor. Ironic, really, because Kanesky has always been unapologetic about making films tailored for the male gaze.

In the film, Bonnie Bowers plays one of the nubile would be victims and spends over half the movie running around barefoot in a skimpy bikini. And she HATED it. Hated the film, hated acting, and felt exploited. In the commentary director Kanesky states that he had a running battle with Bowers, who complained that while she was "standing around in her underwear" her male co-stars were fully dressed...

Kanesky states that it was a bikini and plays coy, but it's obvious that's really a moot point. Bowers clearly looked on it as underwear.

I love details like this. Bowers felt exploited and exposed, and can do nothing about it of course. She's exploited. Forever. Makes watching this film with her in that bikini that much more enjoyable knowing that. Why I don't really know...

This was the only film credit for Bowers. The nudity shown in the below images is all there is of her besides the bikini.

After acting in the film, Bowers became a musician and still performs today.

Love these type of behind the scenes, wish there were more stuff like this.

Here's Joanna Lumley from "The New Avengers"-- season 2, episode 10 "Complex" (1977).

This was a short lived attempt to revive "The Avengers" TV series in the mid to late 70's. Patrick Macnee plays the venerable John Steed, leading a new team. The second season moved the show from London to Canada.

In the episode, Joanna Lumley's character of Purdey gets trapped in a ultra high tech building (for 1977) and is stalked by a killer computer with AI.

As she tries to escape her skirt is sucked off by a ventilator. Running around in tap pants (costume underwear again) she lights a fire, activates the sprinkler system, and shorts out the computer. Not before getting soaking wet of course. A little fan service was expected in those days.

There were more than a few episodes where the character of Purdey ended up losing some article of clothing and then ran around, displaying her charms. While attractive, her bowl haircut and ugly fashions of the time period made her no match for the lovely Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) of the original show.
