Default Perhaps totally off topic

So, fair warning, no nudie pics are to follow. You may or may not judge this to be on topic, but this is certainly the forum I need to consult.

I had a hard drive die on me, and I'd love to send it off to a clean room, but it occurs to me that every time I read a news story about a celebrity getting locked up for kiddie porn, it's always when he had his computer repaired and some technician didn't like what they found. I can guarantee that none of the porn on my hard drive features seven year olds, but seventeen year olds? Shit, I don't know. It's not like they flash ID.

Anyway, does anybody here have any experience with hard drive recovery when the hard drive in question holds the sort of non-commerical pornography that we're trading back and forth on this forum? Any testimonials or advice would be much appreciated.

Just a suggestion.... I have had drives fail to boot up for me as well and this is what I have done to get them going long enough to back up. Remove the drive from the computer but keep the cables connected, turn the computer on and give the drive a light or sometimes not so light tap on the side (DO NOT HIT THE COVER OR EXPOSED ELECTRONICS OF THE DRIVE). You must do this prior to post or windows will not see the drive. Back when I was using Maxtor drives this used to happen to me quite often.

I hope that helps,

G

Default What drives do you use now?

You mentioned Maxtor drive problems. Have you changed to another brand with improved performance?

Thanks,

Gawker

Default Cost

Are you willing to shell out the money to have the recovery. I hear it can cost quite a bit
~1000+ maybe

When it died to you continue to try and boot it? If not might want to try the freezer trick.
Bag it leave it in the freezer for a few hours and be ready to unload everything if it boots
cause you will probably only get 1 shot.

Hmm, I might try that with my old PC. I hadn't heard of a freezer trick before.
