I agree with those who think that the girls of Greece are beautiful. I have no personal exploit to report, but some might find my recollection to be amusing.
In the late 90's, I spent some time in a community near historical Nafplio, Greece. It was a town with a beautiful sandy beach. Although it was not officially a nude beach, at least in the 90's, topless females were common. Despite a few "no nudity" signs, discreet full nudity on the section of the beach away from the shops and cafes was tolerated unless there was a specific complaint. Blatant sexual activity was the primary concern. Otherwise, the authorities were content with letting well enough alone. During the summer months, the town was invaded by students, including many attractive girls who found jobs in the cafes and shops for the season. Most of the shops closed around lunchtime and reopened in the early evening. As a result, the beach was swarming with the shop girls in the afternoon. The girls often changed into their swim suits right on the beach. The one minute or so of bared flesh was not enough to upset beach etiquette. Many of them simply wore panties. When I first visited the beach, the sight of so many nearly nude attractive women made my head spin. After a few days in that environment, however, one learns to adopt the nonchalant attitude of the locals. It takes an exceptional beauty to attract more than an admiring glance. There was a humorous element to my time at that beach. I mention it because of the current financial situation in Greece. I met an entrepreneur restaurant owner who made the most of his opportunities. His restaurant faced the beach and was a lunch / rest stop for a tour bus company from Athens. A box lunch was provided to each passenger. The lunch could be consumed in the restaurant or be carried to the beach across the street. The tourists were foreigners, including many Americans who used the tour to fill an extra day before their cruise ship departed. The owner was a friend of a friend, so I got to know him a bit. His restaurant serviced two busloads per day during the peak season. The owner and his wife cleverly bought cases of inexpensive bikini style cotton panties in white and pastel colors from a Greek sewing plant. He also ordered matching cotton scarves in the same material. The scarves were intended to be a kind of casual beach bra. He had custom labels made with his business logo and the word Beachwear in English. Using stencils and dark blue fabric paint, he and his wife applied a stylized Greek flag on the front of the garments. The business name was stenciled across the back. To complete the beachwear ensemble, he provided a small bath towel, duly stenciled, and a "genuine" poncho style Greek fishermen's net cover-up that was made locally. They were 2 ft x 5 ft pieces of hemmed netting with a head hole in the center and a rope belt. Commissions were paid to the tour bus drivers who suggested the Beachwear to their passengers, reminding them that the rest stop provided more than an hour of beach time. Most of the tourists who boarded the bus in Athens were not thinking about beaches at 7:00 AM, so Beachwear was a viable option. At $30.00 per set, the owner made an extra $150 per day. Visa, Mastercard and American Express were cheerfully accepted. The restaurant generously permitted the beachwear buyers to use the rest room as a changing area. He gave them a plastic bag to store their regular clothing. The women walked in fully dressed and walked out in underwear with a net cover-up that covered nothing. I am sure that most of those women were aware that they were not wearing actual bathing attire. A big hint was that if the lady was sporting pubic hair, there was a telltale shadow visible through the thin material. If they didn't suspect, they learned quickly if they went in the water. To be fair, the restaurant owner told them that the outfits were meant for sunbathing. On a beach full of nearly naked people, it was really no big deal. The really funny thing is that when the bus had to leave, some of the women just put on the net cover-up and continued on with the tour in their brand new outfits. Nothing like touring Ancient Corinth or walking through your Athens hotel lobby in your panties. I'm told that the restaurant was sold shortly after I was there. The previous owner retired and moved to Canada to be close to his married daughter. Unfortunately, many of the entrepreneurial types like the restaurant owner have left Greece. Their innovative talents are sorely missed. Last edited by nothere; 05-04-2013 at 05:11 PM. |
