I would guess someone called the police because of the snapping turtle. These turtles climb out of the water and look for soft ground to dig out a nest and lay their eggs. Not at all unusual to find them in places you wouldn't expect. Not surprising someone would call the police thinking this was big deal, which it isn't. The cop car says Village of Scotia, which I think is in New York.

A turtle that size will break your finger faster than you have time to realize their neck is a actually very long, their mouth is a rock hard beak, their jaw is strong enough to break bones, and they are way faster than they let on. Their legs are long too, and their claws are sharp. Notice the cop isn't putting his fingers near the thing? The models are apparently clueless. Pretty though. I don't think the cop is grinning because of the turtle.

I never knew turtles contained so much potential danger. I am grateful for your warning. It's a good thing none of those women were hurt. Good thing we prefer clams.

I'll see if I can find it again. I know the link appears in the "Huge Open Directory" thread, and the link was shared sometime within the last six months. I know that doesn't narrow down the search very much. I must be viewing too many on-line photos and albums!

Nonetheless, I am sure that the photos posted above are the best - and most revealing - of the entire set.
