Yeah, sounds EXACTLY like my encounter, except we're talking a LONG time back, early 90's? Hard to believe that there are 2 women in NJ that are into that. I've got a long history at Gunnison.
Back around 1978 or 79? I was already scouting out Sandy Hook for possible nude use. Think I read about it in Penthouose, that some areas of Sandy Hook having limited nude use. Back then I did see the occasional head popping up out of the dunes every here and there in the Gunnison vicinity. I took a few GFs there and tried to get them to sunbathe nude in the dunes, no dice.

Finally found a hottie that seemed to enjoy getting naked in the dunes, so we chilled out in the dunes whenever time permitted. Then people then began to get bolder, and occasionally venture out of the dunes and onto the beach.

Around 1980 or 81 the beach became mainstream, think it was a local newspaper story. I don't remember ANY details of the article, OMG that was a long time ago! Maybe, maybe not, the article you saw was one at a later date because:

What I DO remember was that back around 80 - 82, at least for a period of time, to proceed beyond the guard-house in the roadway island, you needed to claim to be a fisherman and get a fisherman's day-pass. Once I was asked to produce fishing gear! Of course I had none, got kicked out and had to go to the regular beach and walk a mile or two up the beach! And for a period of time the guard would just wave EVERYONE through, and spot check for fishing gear. Maybe that's where I had got nabbed. So for a period of time after that, I always had some fishing gear with me. That was at least '82, as I remember the new or fairly new '82 car I had at the time.

I also remember around that era, one Sunday there was a serious building fire out near the tip of Sandy Hook, no one allowed past the guard-shack for any reason. Seems the core-group regulars took it upon themselves to deem the area a couple hundred yards north of the last regular beach (Beach E?) as the temporary nude beach. No one got hassled. That was cool.

And I THINK I recall the name of the naturist club that got the ball rolling, held the nude rally at Gunnison, hence to whom we owe gratitude. Tri-state Naturists? Or, tri-state metro naturists? whatever. I wouldn't stake my life on that information though.
