See the light colored concrete steps as the background on the pic on the right?
You camera see that, thinks it's bright, and closes down the aperture, so the steps - which dominate the picture - look good, but you have no shadow detail in the sn*tch area, because it makes the dark area even darker.

The camera is ok (CANON 7D), but I set the AUTOMATIC option in order to make it faster. Next time I'll have the diaphragm more open!!!

Other problems are:
1) the original pic is larger, I had to enlarge a detail, so it loses definition, and
2) the large square that was between me and the girls was open and sunny (1.00 PM), so the pavement was hot and warmed up the air just above, causing other problems with the definition.

BTW: I hope you understand me, my technical english is not so good...

Some elements can be improved with adjustments afterwards too
