It's a spectrum. On one end of it, some nudist women choose to "keep it private" and keep their legs closed/ankles crossed while sunbathing (like the first pic). On the other end, some want to achieve a "seamless tan" by spreading out; and decide to proudly/confidently ignore how "exposed" they happen to be in the process (like the last pic).
I've found that most nudist women at my resort are actually somewhere in the middle; in varying degrees based on comfort level.

And they are well aware (unless they happen to be asleep) of the choice they've made. My wife has talked about feeling the breeze and sun hitting her vulva (and sweat tickling her clit) when she's sunbathing legs open; so there's no doubt that there are sensations involved in being exposed that are undeniable.

My wife will tend to pick and choose how exposed she is depending on who is around. Normally, she will be reclining in a position that approximates the second pic. But if there are few people around she'll get more comfortable, as in the third pic. If someone walks by and starts talking to us; if she knows them she'll often choose to just stay as is. If not she'll adjust so that her exposed pussy is not right in front of their faces. In short, like most of the women at my resort, it's a conscious decision based on their comfort level at that time, in that particular situation. We also know completely uninhibited women that just don't care; although they are not "the norm."

I would say group 2 tends to be the largest and is marked by a natural but proper seating position which generally exposes 20-60% of the upper portion of the vulva with the remainder obscured between the thighs.

Some are uncomfortable with that level of exposure on that particular day or with that group of people and so move themselves into group 1. You found the perfect example image. Another common one is legs straight out, knees together, ankles crossed. Result is 0-20% exposure. When a woman sits like this all day, it’s patently obvious she doesn’t want to be “seen.”

Group three is fully relaxed as you have shown, 100% exposure or perhaps moving between 80 and 100 all day. However, even this group can still be hyper aware of their exposure — example the sunbathers. Some will very meticulously arrange themselves to ensure 100% body exposure to the sun but then constantly check and adjust themselves to ensure they remain legs open but lips closed.

The final group is the smallest but obviously making a statement. Either to themselves or to the group. Some will find a quiet corner to lay like that while others will pick a very prominent spot and even keep their eyes open and try to see who’s looking

The fourth category is often pegged as exhibitionism; although I've found this to actually rarely be the case - especially at resorts/clubs.

Sometimes it's philosophical. Some women believe that there should be no "double standard" between men and women. Men's genitals are openly visible; and if they can lounge with legs open, women should be able to do the same. And if someone is "hot/bothered" by it, they see it more as a "failure" on their part; and will choose to exercise their "right to be uninhibited" - and not hide.
We have a friend who is in that category; and I have to admit it can be hard to have a conversation with her when she's very purposefully choosing to keep her legs open the entire time!

Sometimes it's to demonstrate confidence. On her second resort trip, my wife was laying next to a woman who was tanning with her legs open; and she decided to follow suite. It was more because she was trying to prove to herself - and others - that she could also be uninhibited. But it didn't stick because it didn't feel natural to her. I've seen newbies do the same; and you can usually tell it's "not for them" as their eyes are constantly darting around to see who might be looking.

And then sometimes it's just vanity. Some women have manicured pussies and want to make sure everyone knows! That comes pretty close to exhibitionism; but not in the sense that they're aroused by it.

As we continue though summer in the Northern Hemisphere, I’m looking forward to more stories of exposure at the Nudist resorts. Here is one that is not a singular specific instance, but more of a general observation from multiple trips.

When spending the week at a textile resort, it’s not uncommon to come into contact with a middle aged woman with large full perky breasts barely contained by her bikini top, and a flat as a board abdomen. After talking to her, one might find out that she has 3 teenage or young adult children. At times, this might generate a bit of jealously from my wife who wonders how the heck that woman can look like that at her age and after having kids. Or other times, that type of woman has a major attitude and can’t be bothered to converse with the normal folk.

Contrast that to the nudist resort. Same type of woman, but this time because she is nude there is the obvious hip to hip scar from her tummy tuck. The vertical scar under her nipples from the breast lift. The circular scar around her nipples explaining her perfectly circular areola with unusually small diameter for her large breasts. And when she raises her arms over her head, the telltale bulge of an implant on her side.

The above woman is hiding nothing. Unpretentious, usually very friendly, and everyone knows why her body looks the way that it does. And the reaction from my wife is completely different: nothing more than a smirk and a shrug and a comment that if she wanted to spend $30k she would look like that too!
