Yes there are. The law states that being naked in public is not an offence, unless its accompanied by lewed or sexual behaviour. Being naked is just a state of being, rather than an act.

Thats how over 1200 people will be naked in London next month on their bikes, and how people stood naked on the plinth.

We have a healthier outlook than the USA, that's for sure!

A few years ago some teenagers who lived in a small town in Vermont discovered there was no ordinance against public nudity. So, they started walking around public naked. They were guys, so no pictures.

A Vermont town that is gaining national attention for brash displays of nudity -- from teens in the buff to naked elderly people -- awoke on Wednesday to an emergency ban on nakedness in most public places.

Public nudity made headlines last summer when the weather grew hot and a couple of dozen teens took to holding hula hoop contests, riding bikes and parading past stores wearing only their birthday suits. The disrobing has resumed this summer.

Although skinny-dipping and nude sunbathing will stay legal in the state, doing the "full monty" in the middle of this town has now become taboo. A violation can cost $100.

Even though nude sunbathing is legal in Vermont, I have never heard of anyone doing it. Any Vermont residents here?

I've visited Vermont, all I saw were cows and old wooden bridges.

I do remember reading something about the public nudity outbreak, I think it was in 2006 or 2007. It started with some girls flashing and then kind of grew from there. There was one report of two 20 something year old chicks sitting topless on top of a newspaper dispenser. I believe it ended when a group of guys and girls (girls going topless only) were all hanging around outside of a store, from there it was just outright banned.

I wish I could remember where i saw this, but about a week ago, I was looking at a more or less complete listing on line of all the states and communities in the US where one could legally be nude in public. For states, we had New York, Vermont, Ohio, Oregon and maybe a few others. I don't remember much else, but if I refind the page, maybe I'll link to it.

A week back I was really touting the UK because of this Barefest thing and the BIg Chill Festival. But now Barefest is looking more like Bustfest (and not the female type of bust either..). So....it remains to be seen WHAT country will host the first truly large all naked festival. I might put this question to Daniel Johnson of the Body Freedom Collaborate as a sort of challenge. Seems he has the power, motivation and experience to put on such an event here in the US. And just WHERE do you suppose he might choose to have it? Hint - not where the guns are.....

Bennington College - There was a student, ummmm....what's the word....uprising about the college's crackdown on campus nudity.

Here's an excerpt from a recent student review of the college:

The amount of freedom Bennington students enjoy on a daily basis can take some getting used to, but students say their reputation for being dirty hippies is definitely overstated. Though they’re encouraged to be unconventional and artistic, they can’t even go around naked anymore: “You will very rarely see someone topless, and it is an extremely rare occasion when someone is fully nude. The college used to allow students to be nude on campus if it was not disrupting anyone else, however they have recently changed the rule, and nudity is no longer allowed on campus (after a conflict with an orientation leader who wanted to be nude while introducing freshman to the school in the Fall)” says one sophomore studio art major. The fact that going without clothes was permitted for several decades is less surprising when you consider the context. As an alum puts it, the school is “situated miles from town on acres of idyllic Vermont hills, the campus is self contained and self maintaining (kind of like a well designed fishtank).”

The isolation, the school’s small size, and the fact that women outnumber men on campus more than 2:1 all affect the campus’s social life. A sophomore theater major points out, “there is no college town. The closest city is Albany, NY which is about 45 minutes away. The town of Bennington consists of a Wal-Mart, a Hannaford, Price Chopper, multiple car dealerships, a bowling alley, and a Taco Bell/KFC joint restaurant. I do have to give "Four Corners" (where main street has an intersection with 3 other streets in the heart of Bennington) more credit than we do because it's very cute and has a coffee shop and a pet store and other places where Bennington college students could hang out but we don't.” Virtually everyone lives in one of 20 co-ed houses in close proximity to each other. So, says a junior music major, “the dating scene is a little tricky. Because the school is very small people often refer to it as ******uous. For instance, your next door neighbor might be hooking up with the guy/girl you were hooking up with three weeks ago, and it can get a little weird. However, plenty of people have great lasting relationships as well (myself included for a year and a half.)” And students this creative don’t have too much trouble coming up with their own fun.
