Jane was actually based on a real woman; model Chrystabel Leighton-Porter (she died in 2000). In addition to the comic strips, there was a 1949 Jane movie; the Adventures of Jane (starring Chrystabel), the famous BBC TV series; Jane and the sequel; Jane in the Desert (both starring Glynis Barber), and a late 1980's Holywood film; Jane and the Lost City (starring Kirstin Hughes).
