Fremont 2023

Fremont Solstice is this weekend, Saturday June 17. The weather has been good in Seattle but unfortunately it looks like it's going to be a cooler with little rain on Saturday.

It’s not much, but it’s good news after seeing a bunch of tweets speculating that the solstice cyclists wouldn’t ride because of the cold in Seattle. Just saw a tweet posted 4 minutes ago saying “Solstice parade pre-ride has begun”. No way to judge the whole thing from one shot, but looks like at least enough turnout it can’t be a complete loss.

Just to be clear, for all I know, it could be a huge turnout, because the people doomposting weren’t involved, just random people.

It's tough to say for sure, since we don't know if the pics so far just capture a portion of the ride or all of it, but it does look like a smaller group this year. But despite that, it seems like there were greater-than-normal number of unpainted riders.

I'm pretty sure this one also rode last year, and made the bold choice of wearing the same "outfit" two years in a row--albeit this time with different headgear and sans sunglasses.

Here are a few other riders who decided to reduce their carbon footprint by using less paint.

Pics 1-2: I loved the sequence of this walker (also depicted in the first 3 pics of zorians post above), who appeared to become a runner when left behind by the pack. I hope this was caught on video, as it would make for a great ENF/OON scene.

Pics 3-4: Front and back of a cute scooter-er.

Pics 5-8: This woman has a remarkable body, although judging by her facial expression it seems like she might not be enjoying herself too much, perhaps due to the cold.

It started cold and wet in Seattle for the Solstice but warmed up and the event went very well. It started with painting up in Gasworks Park.
