Where did my 'Thanks' go!!!
Yesterday, I was pleased to see myself reach 34,000 (it is what makes me want to keep posting!:o) and this morning, that total has dropped by about 25, to below 34.000. That must mean somebody has gone back through loads of posts to remove them all.....I wonder why??

Looking through your posts the last time a post of yours was deleted was on 09-30-2010, which didn't have any "thanks" with the post, it was just one where you pointed out reposted content, so both the repost and your post were deleted together.
Looks like you're over 34,000 now, so it might of just been a hiccup. Slick |
Thanks Slick, vantity eh:D:D:D;)

Yeah, I noticed the same - a bunch of my "thanks" melted away into cyberspace. I don't know what happened.
|
hmm yeah same here.. i remember i had 2444 as the number of posts thanked and now its 2441
So that means that 3 posts evaporated into thin air, with whatever 'thanks' were attached to them I blame global warming  |
It seems that the more you had, the more you lost! At that rate 'osreb' probably a few hundred!!!

I think Pedro's first post refers, however, to the fact that it's been possible for a while now for an individual to remove his/her own thanks to a given post, so rather than being just "a hiccup," that could be an explanation. I can see that option having been put in place so that a person might correct a mistake, like clicking "Thanks" on the last post in a thread instead of clicking the "Forum Jump" box a bit lower (I did that myself once or twice before the policy was instituted, but couldn't remember - or be bothered to search for - where I'd done it to go back and change), but if that's the justification, couldn't a time limit on the change, like the one on editing posts, be established? On the subject of "hiccups," though, has anyone figured out how cyrylek managed this stat: Thanked 4,294,967,295 Times in 35 Posts ??

and this has happened at least twice before in the past... at the time i remember checking to see my most recent posts(just as i have done now) and they were all there, so i'd gathered it must have been older posts. I didn't say anything at the time, because i didn't think it was a big deal. Quote:

I have noted this on occasion, but no big deal. Usually, i just go mmmm........didn't I just pass 37,000 the other day and now I'm back under....? Or something like that.

Toward the end of September my counter showed that I had left 50,000 "thank you's" to members. The first week of October I was nearing 51,000. Right now I'm showing 49,981. They seem to be "disappearing"....

I just noticed my reply wasn't related to what Pedro was originally saying. I answered it at 5am while I was getting ready for work so I apologize, being half awake and all. :o
Did anyone notice this before the "Remove Thanks" function was added? In this case I don't think it's people going back into old posts and using the "Remove Thanks" function. To lose 25 or so posts in less than a day would mean one person would have to remove them from 25 posts or 25 different people would have to remove them. Won't really know a definitive answer until Alex has a chance to look into it. Slick |
You can blame me for creating this mystery, but I'll also take credit for solving it.
There is a glitch in the software where the "Thanks" are not removed when a post (or thread) initially get's removed. Threads and posts are sometimes removed if they violate the forum rules, we receive a complaint or somebody chooses to end their membership with us. Once or twice a year we clean up the older deleted posts and physically remove them from our servers. At this point, people's "Thanks" counters are updated so "Thanks" that were left in deleted posts are no longer counted. For the past couple of days we have been doing this. We're all done for now so people shouldn't see any more dramatic changes until the next time we repeat the process. Thanks, Alex |
