That's a very useful link celeb_peeper. We'll keep this thread at the top of the list.

Every week we get a few requests for help with codec problems. The number one problem is that people haven't downloaded the DivX codec.

The link you posted should help a lot of people find out what they need.

Thanks,

Thanks CP. That avicodec program is awesome. For those interested in it, you just drag a vid icon into the program and the program tells you what codecs are needed to run it, if you have them or not, and where to get them if you don't have them.

:) :) :)

I use a program called Gspot to get this information. I find it has alot more info then the AviCodec program. If anyone wants to check it out you can grab it from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ one thing I would also like to add is that installing codec packs (like the Nimo codec pack) can do more harm then good. It's always recommended that you use a program like avicodec or G-Spot to identify what codec is needed by a video and download and install that codec only.

sincerely ....

sincerely i prefer k-lite mega codec pack !

Suggestion

Hi there.

I also use G-Spot to detect missing codecs. I'd recommend to download just the single codecs you need (no codec pack). I had serious problems with some programs when i installed some codec pack in the past. Some Games are quite allergic against certain codec packs.

chickman 02-14-2007 05:55 AM

for experience i advise....

for experience i advise : k-lite mega codec pack and vlc media player ( if video is apparently complete and don't working) : first program because you can play all format , second program because :
1) you can use vlc media player with plugin for firefox
2) you can watch previews with plugin vlc for emule
3) you can see uncompleted videos or apparently complete videos !

your chickman ! ;)

VLC Player and GOM Player are the two that I see most commonly recommended.

Lately the .MP4 files I've downloaded from Vimeo (through the downloadhelper extension) have been in an unknown codec that won't play in WMP, GOM or VLC. Anyone else have this problem?

Check out this post and please read it all the way through. Many have found the solution to
the problems by making some minor adjustments to the settings in their browser.
