Default I suspect the answer is no, but...

...is there any way to search one's own attachments (found in the User Control Panel) by filename? It would help me not re-post things I've already submitted.

Unfortunately, you cannot search for attachment names. You can only view the list that displays them in the order they were posted.

Thanks anyway; it was worth asking, in case I was just missing the technique, and now I have a built-in excuse for reposting, certified by you! On another note, would it perhaps be possible to have deleted posts, much as is sometimes done with deleted pictures within posts, followed up by a mention of what was done wrong? I realize that might not be practical all the time, and probably wouldn't deter major repeat offenders (if any such there be), but it might forestall things like the incident today in E&V's Cap d'Agde thread, where I suspect the re-poster didn't realize he'd erred, just thought the post had vanished into the ether somehow...yes, a PM might accomplish the same thing, but I get the feeling not everybody notices right away when that little notice appears, and this way could also remind others of what's taboo.

When posts are removed, it is not always wise for the moderators to post a public explanation.

For example, if somebody posts underage or forbidden material we don't want other members to see mention of this and use our forums to try to set up private trades for material that is unacceptable to be posted here.

Also, just to add, in some cases it's better not to leave a message in public because you're almost "outing" that person for making a mistake. We try not to "out" anyone unless they aren't responding to a PM or don't realize the mistake they are making, like with constantly posting watermarked photos for example.

I think most people would rather see a PM with the post deleted than a public message in their post with the photo deleted........well, at least I would.
