New UK law mid july. robust age verification.

Not the normal thread that you see on OCC, but an access issue nether the less to the site. As such i feel it is valid for inclusion.

Basically by July 2019 looks like when you're in the UK you'll have to prove your age absolutely by providing drivers license/ credit card information rather than just a quick tick box.

Ok this is to protect the minors but is becoming a little bit nanny state to access legal porn sites. Furthermore there are many privacy concerns such as passport data been recorded which would be worrying if there were to be a data breach and data was leaked.

Will OCC be implementing this soon? I've seen such a system trailed on one site so far. As I thought it was a scam at the time I didn't proceed.

Unless I'm a very imaginative and atypical teen , I think the detailed ramblings in my blogs help prove my age but still give me some anonymity with out leaving my credit card details online.

I've also heard that the youngsters are more tech astute and will get round this via a VPN. Anyone currently use these for OCC?

I think the browser " Opera " has one such option too. Would be interested of folks experience with this too.

Now my blogs may not be your cuppa, but do represent a lot of time on my part writing them. What I'm concerned about is that over time if I don't access the site my info might be deleted . Additionally I cant add to it with my many life experiences. As such I'm going to take copies just in case I have to go old style and put my memoirs down in a book old style.

Any thoughts on this welcomed.....

The VPN workaround is too obvious. Now, good VPNs are not free, so one could think that if you use one, it means you are an adult (with a credit card). However, there are also some bad-quality free options. They could put an outright ban on VPNs, but this is a bit unlikely. What I'm expecting is that, eventually, parliament will amend the law to force VPN providers to refuse connecting UK users to porn websites or be fined or banned from operating in the UK.
