Jammys, you've made lots of connections I never would have seen, but this time, I think you're seeing a connection that isn't there. I think those are two different women. The face doesn't look the same to me, but that's the kind of thing you're way better at than I am. You can't see much of the woman's shape in the 2016 picture jucastro is asking about, so besides the face and hair, all we can compare is her accessories and her bike. Those things are all completely different. The woman in the 2016 picture has a lot of ear jewelry, a ring on almost every finger, bodypaint, multiple necklaces, a 1-speed super-retro Pinnacle bike, and no helmet. The well-known woman from 2015 has only one visible ear piercing (without an earring), no jewelry of any kind besides a thin black bracelet, an 18-speed Raleigh, and a helmet. Obviously, any of those things could change in one year, but she gives the impression of somebody who likes a very simple look, where the woman jucastro is asking about does a lot of self-decoration. That would be a really big change in one year. Also, I haven't seen a lot of people who stop wearing bike helmets after they've gotten in the habit, and the 2015 girl has it on almost all the time before they get to the beach. I can't be absolutely sure it's not the same person, but sure enough to waste my time posting this!

You're too kind mate, and thanks for keeping me right. Apologies all- I think I must have made the assumption just after the 2016 ride, when the photos were rapidly flowing in, and then not thought to question it. I therefore echo jucastro's request for more photos of the 2016 girl! Two more months until the 2017 rides

At least the bigger rides get positive coverage, by and large, and the message is obvious.

The Hastings one I did in 2014, despite being pretty small (just over 50 riders) and 95% male, at least got a good response from the spectators and got the message over.

The 2014 Canterbury ride looked like things were moving in the right direction, with about 100 taking part and even some women among the participants. Unfortunately at least one of these was harassed by one or more fellow riders. I think the 'stiffgate' debacle last year made this ride a laughing stock and I would be very surprised if there was another in 2017.

If Brighton gets the sort of weather Canterbury had today, turnout is sure to be high and the atmosphere superb. But no doubt that one will be grey/cool/windy.
