For the last several years, however, artist Nona Faustine has worked to shine a light on New York City’s buried legacy of slavery in a striking series of self-portraits titled “White Shoes.” The photographs feature Faustine posing before famous New York landmarks and locales: City Hall, the State Supreme Court Building, Wall Street — forgotten marketplaces where African men, women, and children were once bought, sold, and rented into slavery.

Save for the pair of high heels beneath her feet and a piece of broken black chain around her wrist, Faustine is completely nude in the images, a showing of solidarity with the women who stood in her place centuries before.

“The nudity was symbolic of the way black people were put on display and sold," Faustine tells the Voice. "Black women were put on display on the slave blocks, and I felt a strong [sense of] solidarity with those women.”

Taken in broad daylight, the photos had to be snapped quickly, before drawing too much attention. “Anybody can go to these places fully clothed. But to risk something for your beliefs, your art, to strip yourself of any clothing or protection, it’s a state of vulnerability.”

A 39-year-old female state delegate from Montgomery County, Maryland has been charged with trespass and indecent exposure for her actions at her ex-husband's house in front of him and his fiancee while she was dropping off her children for their joint custody visitation. Her lawyer says that she will "vigorously" contest the charges, but cellphone video taken during the incident will be hard to ignore.

According to the charging document, Sanford played a cellphone video for police that showed Kelly ringing the doorbell “numerous times,” exposing her breasts in the direction of Sanford’s cellphone camera and then “with one breast in each hand [shaking] them up and down.”

N.J. woman ran from crash naked, high on LSD, reports say

Cops say a New Jersey woman flipped her car in California over the weekend while admittedly high on LSD injuring one her passengers, police reports say.

Abigail Ralph, 26, was found shortly after the crash running naked through a nearby field "in a state of hysteria," police told The Union, where a Christian youth group was playing softball.

The woman was in the shower when two police officers entered her house to investigate a complaint made by her estranged husband. Wearing only a towel, she met with police. As the situation deteriorated, her daughter started recording the incident on her cellphone video camera. That is when the woman lost her towel and was arrested naked. The video was provided to a news station by her lawyer and is pixilated.

Swiss Town Launches Bizarre Naked Performance Art Festival

The Body and Freedom Festival, which bills itself as the world's first ever festival for "naked performing in urban space," will take place for the first time this summer in the sleepy Swiss town of Biel.

From August 21-22, the festival seeks to attracts nude performance artists from around Europe, who will perform in the nude to consenting audiences. The weekend-long event aims to contribute to the dissolution of taboos surrounding nudity.

Organizers have launched a crowd-funding campaign to gather the remaining CHF3,000 ($3,134) required to pay for accommodations, photographers, festival booklets, and posters.

The festival's initiator, Thomas Zollinger, told 20 Minuten, “I hope for the support of many friends of nakedness."

“Today everything that can be shown and performed in galleries or theaters may also be shown and performed in urban spaces—only the naked body seems to remain a taboo," he lamented....

For CHF880 ($919) donors can buy the whole package, which includes participating in the “naked procession," taking part in the “naked lunch," and an exclusive meeting with the initiator.

The festival has not announced whether Swiss nude performance art star, Milo Moiré, will make the trip to Biel to attend the celebrations. At least she won't be arrested, like in Paris, if she performs the officially sanctioned event.
