Hi all some great tips for a newbie like myself, just a quick question with Yandex. Is it safe to use as I had a go yesterday and got some results but some of the sites look abit iffy, don’t particularly want to go where there is anything dodgy 😂

If you mean are the sties filled with virus or something like that then you really need two things. Malwarebytes which has a free version and a good free virus protection. Of course you can pay for both if you think it's better to have the paid version. If you mean the content might be suspect then you can go and look and leave and not open anything if you think it's not for you.

You are right to be cautious about visiting dodgy sites for porn and pirated pics/films - like visiting dodgy parts of town for sex, porn and stolen goods. When our brains are in "sex/porn mode" our risk assessment is dampened and there is much wishful thinking - which will be exploited by others.

There is no totally safe way. But here are some tips for mitigating risk:

• Use different browsers for porn, secure stuff, and general surfing. Don't have your email, shopping, banking tabs, Facebook open at the same time as porn. Most browsers try to prevent cross-site scripting but may not be perfect.
  
  
• Block adverts, tracking and surveillance, I like

- ublock origin
- DuckDuckGo privacy essentials
- ClearURLS

• Some of the above won't work properly with Google Chrome, because google needs to track you and sell the targeted advertizing.
  
  
• I use Firefox and am testing out the new DuckDuckGo browser (still in beta) which has many of the above add-ons built in.
  
  
• Use a private browsing window so that persistent cookies and cache are cleared when you close the private window. Like regular handwashing.
  
  
• Use a more private search engine like DuckDuckGo.
  
  
• Never download special add-ons from porn, pirate or dodgy sites.

It would be great, to me, if sites like OCC would provide an internal search with face recognition and specific image recognition, a technology similar to what pimeyes and google images do but limited to the images on site. I know there are photos of my wife here but searching for her is a little like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Agree with everything you said. I also agree with the good antivirus protection and malwarebytes is great and they can be found FREE. DuckDuckGo is my home page for searching and I also use FireFox. Most browsers also have extensions you can download and I would recommend using a VPN which is virtual private network so they don't pick up your IP address.

As far as I know the pictures are deleted. There are very few search engines now that reveal nude let alone hard core pics it seems. They have really tightened up. So I am guessing the pics might well be still somewhere, but unless I am on the specific site, I'm not going to find them.

I only bought a Pimeyes sub for a month and used it to the max before it ran out. I might try it again.

BTW I never got to the bottom about why some pics from here (OCC) show up on searches and some do not. Anyone know?

I work on the theory that if you are using different tabs to browse OCC (having signed in) and the search engine then this might give Pimeyes, or Yandex for that matter access to the site you are signed into. The other theory would be that there is some sort of security race between the close sites (those needing sign-in) and these search engines whereby the search engines are constantly finding back doors, but the sites then close them. This would result in random, inconsistent results of course, but that seems to be what we now get.
