Surely these people are already in the public eye. The same as posting the first and last name of any other celebrity.

Is it forbidden to write "Brad Pitt" or "Angelina Jolie"? No? Then why should it be forbidden to post an athlete's first and last name?

If that's your rationale, that professional athletes are celebrities:

Rule 13) Do not post posed (photoshoot) or candid (paparazzi/oops/red carpet/etc.) celebrity photos or videos.

I guess and think that there is a difference between 'official' pics, pics who where shot by (official/accreditaded) sportsphotographers where you might see some 'unintentional' extras and pics shot by voyeurs with only the intention to get the (unintentional) exposed interesting parts of those athletes.
And if those pics already are floating around on tenths, hunderds of websites, including full names, why should we 'more roman than the pope'?
But i can agree with the fact that before posting, you must be shure that you are not the first to publish her (full) name in combination with a specific pic, especially the voyeur pics, made by voyeurs.
