The bit I really missed out on is holidays with her friends when they all go topless. Not the slightly tame ones my wife seems to have taken.

I am not sure how it is now, but 15 to 20 years ago, the most typical holiday destination for Czech people were the beaches of Croatia and basically all Czech women apparently considered this place as the location where going topless is absolutely necessary When I joined some family/friends vacation I could be sure that I am going to see boobs of all female participants

Me and my wife haven't been to a beach in the last 15 years, usually go into the mountains. So I no longer have any insight into how the relationships, topless or not, are nowadays.
My wife was already a lover of topless sunbathing before we started dating. I had been able to experience this myself a few times because we used to see each other regularly through common friends. This was usually on a waterfront where we went jet skiing. The girls then usually retreated to a quieter place to work on their tan, most of them topless. My girlfriend at the time dared to wear thong bottoms. Needless to say, the guys stopped by the girls once in a while.
After we started dating and had sex the first time I saw that she also had a thong tan-line , apparently she never dared to wear them there at the waterfront.
These days, she still takes every opportunity to sunbathe topless when we're at a hotel pool. Often her example is quickly followed by other guests. You can see that most women don't like to be the first and use some encouragement.

As a teenager I took a tour bus with my family and saw a lot of topless female tour participants and of course a lot of other stranger women. That was my first such experience.

Then, as a twenty-something, I joined a tour that included a former high school classmate of mine who I had a bit of a crush on. She had a beautiful body, not exactly a model in the face - very nerdy - but I found her all the more interesting. The trip was organized by her best friend's family. Of the female participants, her friend, her (friends) sister, motherand aunt were there. And yes, I ended up seeing everyone's boobs

Unfortunately, I don't have any interesting pictures from that.

The photos had to be of a busy beach in the middle of the day (there really are s lot of photos of sinsets!) I also included women up walking around, or perhaps just arriving or leaving, of which many more were covered up. How many of these got their norks out when they lay down?.

I need a time machine to go back then! Most women 20 years ago were happy it seems to show off their tits on a Spanish beach. I'm just glad some of these moments have be preserved for posterity.

At one point I did a similar count from shots of crowded beaches, though date range more like early 90s. The figure I came out with was one third of women topless on average, up to a half on a really hot day, so that's consistent.

I think social media allowing thongs but not breasts has been a big factor. Young women see lots of images of their role models (celebrities and peers) in thongs but not topless. There might also be an element of buttocks being more related to strength and sport whereas breasts are more passive.

That said, I think there are probably still quite a few women who would and do get topless, but they do it in semi-private spaces like a secluded cove, or around a villa pool or on a hired boat, not right in the middle of a public beach.

One other factor that's changed in the past 25 years, which I hadn't thought about before, is that the quality of swimwear has improved. Both in the materials and in the range of sizes, shapes and styles available to the average beachgoer. In all active and sportswear there’s been a general trend that kit of the 80s and 90s was relatively heavy, shapeless and prone to wardrobe malfunctions, while kit today is more of a “second skin” that can be made showy and revealing yet stay reliably on. I think that’s another reason why doing without a bikini top entirely was a more common course of action back then.

Hi do not agree with your statement, and when I say "I" I just tell you what my wife says.
Sure, beachwear evolved since all these years, but if you don't like get wet wear on you, you don't like.
And my wife says that wearing a bra is so uncomfortable that even today she don't like it.
