Well, three days had passed. they were full of snickers and hushed phone calls by my wife. Mysterious trips to her car at odd hours, and the occasional tease.

I was ordered out of the house on the third day at noon and told not to return until 6
No problem, to the bar I go

The text at 6 came from her phone
"We have her. If you want her back return home. further instructions to follow."
Oh, she was good.

I got home and found a black bag sitting on the coffee table. The note attached said "Bring the money or we'll keep her."

Inside the bag was a bundle of play money and a hotel key. the old fashioned kind that are actually keys and have the name and address of the hotel on them.
one quick look on Google told me that it was 30 miles away and was listed as a "Budget" hotel.
It was remote and closed down last month.
She really got into this fantasy.

As I pulled up to the gate, I saw her car and no others. The key was to a second floor room. The shabby curtains glowed red. I walked up the steps and approached the room.

Turning the key to unlock the room I entered. All the light bulbs had been replaced with red ones and the room was bathed in a hellish tone. The worn desk held several items and a note with a handcuff key taped to it.
" You can leave the money, take the key and release me, or stay and play. You're choice."
How thoughtful, she left an out.
