I agree with C Dick. Canadian society on the whole tends to be more liberal or "European" when it comes to things like nudity and/or sexuality. Especially if you live in a big city. In a lot of ways, it's a non-issue. Sexuality on the whole isn't as contentious a subject in Canada as it is in a lot of other countries.

That's part of why T.O.'s Pride events are always so much fun in my opinion. People don't seem to be afraid to express themselves if they want to. The reactions you most often see when a naked person of either gender walks by are smiles and huge cheers from the crowd. Dirty looks are non-existant. That kind of acceptance just encourages people to let loose and have fun if they so choose. I'd say that 90% of the nudity that happens each year at T.O.'s pride parades are from spectators in the streets, not by anyone marching in the parades (and I'd say most of my own photos from this year prove that, ha). And with hundreds of thousands of pepole turning out each year, that's a lot of public nudity!

Its not legal to be nude at pride or the WNBR and police often try to scare nudies into getting dressed at both events. There will probably be arrests one these years. As for the french influence, wreck beach is far more influenced by california. I have been to a few montreal prides, way less nudity than toronto. I dont know why. Pics found online.

That is just not true, the law in Ontario has a specific exemption for organized events. The Pride parade is lined with police officers, and the WNBR is escorted by officers, and they make no attempt to make anyone get dressed, none. A couple of years ago they amended the Ontario law so that laying a charge for public nudity requires the approval of the Solicitor General, a clear indication that no charges should be laid.

There was a case last year where a dude was walking nude in a park in Orillia, and someone complained, and he was charged. He was acquitted because the judge said it was not harmful. My belief is that you could be nude virtually anywhere in Ontario, on public property, and as long as you were well behaved, you would not be charged.

I think you are right about Wreck Beach, as you say, it is more California influenced. I find Montreal more liberal than Toronto in general, I don't know why their Pride would be tamer. Perhaps their gay community is less out there?
