Some people don't like 'picture collectors' and resent blank profiles, some insist on comments but I think it's largely the mistaken belief that it overrides the privacy setting and makes it public, - it doesn't.

If a Friends and family photo is put into a group then any member of the group can see it and a warning to that effect is given when the photo is placed there. If someone in that group then favourites it a lot of people seem to think it becomes visible outside the group, - it doesn't, I've tested it.
I think it's just one of those things people repeat without knowing why

Flckr is a weird place at times, eveyone screaming 'don't favourite', 'comment or else' , you must have photos' if not I will cut your dick off or worse still 'Block you'.
Sheesh, why can't everyone just chill and enjoy the pics.

Those people need to understand that they chose to share their pictures on Flickr. The fav option is a feature of Flickr that has no restrictions. If Flickr wanted to restrict that, they could easily add a feature that would allow the user not to allow favoriting if their pictures, but they don't. It's part of how you are supposed to use Flickr. As for the comment wh*r*s, they have forgotten that sharing has nothing to do with reciprocating are giving anything in return. Sharing is done because you want to share, not because you want something in return. Personally, I get tired of the same old "nice ass" comment. I know it's a nice ass, that's why I posted it! Id rather not waste my time reading it. Just fav my pics and move on. And I also run out of things to say in a comment as well.

Thanks fergieferg and runtime, that makes more sense to me.

Being a bit of a late-comer to flickr, favouriting seemed to be its equivalent of the like button on facebook. Couldn't see why it seemed to be such a big issue for people.

Unfortunatly I have to disagree with what you said, I share pictures on my stream to a select few less than 50 I dont want the world to see these pictures as we post with faces and I want that side of our lives to remain private. Therefore I ask the people that have access to these not to favourite and as these are my pictures I think I have the right to do this.

I have no problems with comments unless they are abusive or just down right vulgar again and if I get such comments I block them as my wife finds this type of thing upsetting.

If people play by the rules then everyone is happy if they dont then genuine couples like ourselves will just stop posting all together.
