When I visited Japan, I stayed in a "minshuku" which is a family run guesthouse. The main building consisted of a long hallway, with about 8 rooms dotted along the right hand side. My room was the last one towards the end. It had a high ceiling, and big 'paper' windows.
At the very end of the hallway was a door which gave access to the onsen. You walked into the changing room, then turned right to access it. It "sunk" down lower than the rest of the building, and there were windows along the top of the walls. Its use alternated between men and women, i.e. 19:00 - 20:00 was for men, then 20:00 - 21:00 was for women. From the outside, there was no way to see anything. The windows on the onsen wall were too high. But, my room was in the *perfect* position. Its windows were only a few metres away. My ceiling was high, the onsen was low and I'm 6ft tall. If I stood on a table and stacked up my bedding, I could *just* get high enough to peek out my window, and "down" into the onsen. At the end of each day I'd turn off my light, open my window, stand on my table and wait for the various Japanese women staying with me to enter the bath. I once had a close female work friend stay over mine after a big work party one time. We'd all had a lot to drink so offered to let her stay to save on taxi fare home, and thought it would be safer. There's never been anything other than friendship between us, so she had spare room and i stayed in mine. However the bathroom is off my spare room, so when i got up the next morning I had to use the bathroom. I knocked on the door, but no answer so i assumed she had already got up. Walked into the room and she was asleep in bed still, completely naked!! Her dress was on the floor next to her bag, so she must of undressed and fell right asleep. I couldn't see any underwear so i assume she wasn't wearing any the night before! I was worried about her waking up and catching me looking, so tried to take in as much as I could before leaving the room again. Wouldn't want her to find out that I'd seen her naked, but glad I did!

When I was in graduate school my wife's brother and his girlfriend lived with us. One night I got up to go to the bathroom and had to pass their room to get there. Their room had a sliding door and it wasn't fully closed. Their light was on and they were asleep. I saw her lying there on her back completely naked. I stood there looking for some time. It only happened once but I kept trying.
