So last night I went and got my nipples pierced by Jess Becker at Lifestyles in Waterbury, CT and I’m soooo happy. But I thought I’d make this post for anyone who might be interested in getting them (or if you’re just curious). Unfortunately I found it a bit hard to get a lot of information online. So following this post if anyone wants to send me questions I’ll be making another update post in 3-4 weeks that goes over aftercare and I’ll answer all of the questions you guys have (if you don’t follow me don’t worry, I’ll tag you when I answer your question in the post so you don’t miss it).

So here’s the basics.

How bad did it hurt?

Well, this obviously depends on the person. I have a fairly high pain tolerance and for me my first nipple was a 6/10 and my second was a 7.5/10. The second one does hurt more because by the time they do it your adrenaline has calmed down considerably. However don’t let the thought of pain scare you away. Once the jewelry was in the pain went away for about a minute and then it just kind of burned but it was nothing excruciating. Now they burn considerably less and don’t really bother me.

Bras?

Again this does depend on the person and the size of your boobs. I’m a C cup and I feel okay wearing my regular padded bra and I’m also pretty okay without one at all but it makes me nervous about catching on things. My piercer also recommended a bralette if the padding was bothering me (of course nothing lacy you can get stuck on). Surprisingly the pressure of having a bra on feels really nice. Also if you’re worried about getting blood on any of your bras (yes, this piercing does bleed) I suggest getting a box of nursing pads or if you have panty liners you can cut them in half before sticking them to the inside of your bra.

What’s the best way to sleep?

I normally sleep either on my side or on my stomach so I was a bit nervous about going to sleep last night. I wasn’t too stoked about getting woken up by intense nipple pain because I rolled over in the middle of the night. To prevent this from happening I propped up my pillows and slept sitting up slightly. However I did try to lay on my side a bit and found that it didn’t lead to any real discomfort, however in my research one girl said that she continued to sleep on her side and the nipple on the side that she slept on tended to bleed more. she went to talk to her piercer and was told that was normal. So if you chose to sleep on your side keep this in mind. I also kept my bra on while I slept to prevent my barbell from catching on anything.

Will my nipples be permanently hard?

Short answer, no.

Long answer, your nipples will be hard at first because having the jewelry in them feels new and weird. But after a while you get used to them. Eventually they will relax.

Should I get them both done at once?

I chose to get not only both my nipples pierced at the same time but also my lip, however I have had experience caring for multiple piercings at once (I got my cartilage and eyebrow done at the same time) so I felt prepared for this challenge. But ultimately I believe that taking care of two at once is just as easy as taking care of one.

Will I lose sensitivity in my nipples?

Actually the opposite! Your nipples will become more sensitive after piecing. The nerves in the nipple are spread out and not in one place that can be severed by the needle going through. some people do have a loss of sensation as they get used to their piercings. But this is just that their nipples are not as sensitive as they became after they were first pierced, and that they have become only as sensitive as they were before being pierced.

Can I never breastfeed after the piercing?

No, the nipple is comprised of multiple milk ducts, not just one central channel. Your milk ducts have the ability to reroute themselves if faced with an obstacle. Also women that have (or have had) their nipples pierced may even have a lower incidence of infections, irritation, or scar tissue from breastfeeding!

this being said of course DO NOT get pierced if you are currently nursing or think you may be pregnant! You want your piercings to be fully healed before breastfeeding and getting pierced while pregnant is never recommended.
