I honestly didn't know they wore panties under leotards. I guess I kind of assumed there was just padding, like in a swimsuit. I learn knew things every day.

Most people don't wear panties under a leotard or will wear a skin colored under leotard. This is more of a oops section.

Aren't the gymnasts deducted points if their underwear is showing during their performances? If so, shouldn't they wear just the leotard and nothing underneath, like swimmers that wear only the swimsuit? Imagine that, no bra or panties, just the leotard during competitions.

I don't know if there is a deduction for that but I certainly know that most of the gymnasts don't wear panties or bras underneath, maybe just because it doesn't look good when the underwear is visible. For this reason I am surprised you found so many photos like these ...

I'm sure many of them wear the special skin toned panties designed for leotards, which apparently come in different shapes and styles. If leotards were designed to be like swimsuits (with built in bra cups), there wouldn't be a need to wear anything underneath. Pokies and toes would be more prevalent.
