I think it varies by place but I know that in the,UK in the,60s models would shave to make it easier to airbrush out their genitalia to keep the censor happy. Then the law changed and erotica was all full Bush in the 70s and 80s

Many professional B&W photos were airbrushed back in the day, but a lot of the amateur photos have been photoshopped more recently. You can tell by the indistinct detail, and slight blurring. Before the late 90's a woman shaving off her pubic hair was about as common as her shaving her head.
