This was a bit clumsy of me, apologies if anyone took offence. It was an in-joke, and not intended in any way as a slur on those of us- including me- who have photographed rides without participating, for whatever reason. If anyone didn't get the in-joke and took offence, PM me and I'll explain.
Looking forward to the Mancunian spirit tomorrow and the annual epic weekend of rides. The only thing I could or would add to suggestions for new London photographers is, avoid Hyde Park and Westminster bridge for the increasing throngs of spectators. |

This event and getting decent pics at it is all about luck really. You never know which feeder ride (seven this time) will contain the more interesting characters. Westminster Bridge always packed and difficult but you can also get iconic shots against a backdrop of famous landmarks and the volume of traffic means constant stops - and constant stops mean snapping opportunities. You can then follow the ride to Forum Magnum Square where there has been a rest stop in previous years. On to Waterloo Bridge for what is typically the best part of the ride so far as getting pictures of the riders in motion in a relatively uncluttered environment. And it should then be possible to make it back down The Strand, The Mall and into Constitution Hill by the time the ride is heading back towards Wellington Arch. Certainly last year we made it back to the arch with a good bit of time to spare - but the various diversions and road closures for the Queen's street party slowed the returning riders, I think. London WNBR is a very demanding and difficult event at which to get decent pictures. Ideally you need to be one of the riders to get the best shots, or even better to hitch a ride on a rickshaw etc. It's impossible to say where the best places to snap will be because there are so many variables. IMHO. Last edited by fdooby; 06-09-2017 at 02:36 AM. |

However, this year for reasons I haven't been able to ascertain, there will be no rest stop at Forum Magnum Square. Only the Lincoln's Inn Field one. This will make life difficult for those chasing the ride. Last year it was easily possible to get from Westminster to Waterloo Bridge ahead of the pack. This time it might be more difficult. It's around three quarters of a mile from the end of Waterloo Bridge to Lincoln's Inn but attempting this on foot unless you're a decently fit runner would be a push. At least WNBR doesn't clash with Trooping the Colour this year. That may help a little. |

I may be wrong, but I've always thought the Forum Magnum Square stop was more of an impromptu one anyway. I mean there's usually a stop in the Westminster area anyway as all the riders wait for the various feeds to join together... why do you then need another stop just a couple of minutes later? I think these kind of stops always depend on the pace of the ride. In 2015 it stopped for about 10 minutes on Waterloo Bridge, but last year it seemed like only 2 or 3 minutes. |

Anybody in Central London tomorrow should be ready with their phone or camera as it's going to a perfect day for maximum nudity, sunny and 23C all afternoon.
However, once again Brighton misses the perfect weather by one day, Sunday is forecast to be a lot less sunny and much (18C) cooler, at least it's not going to be as bad as some years. Brighton had a good General Election for a youth/liberal City ditching a rather nasty Tory and doubling the majority of the UK'season only Green member of parliament, so wouldn't be surprised if some young students aren't in the mood for some naked celebrations this weekend. Fingers crossed for thousands of high quality photos and videos of the European public nudity highlight of the year weekend! Good luck to those intrepid OCC members who are following in my footsteps (wheeltracks) and getting their own kit off to get some stunning images for our private delight, have fun guys.
