Well, you didn't mention whether she was chatting with a male or a female and why she is only chatting at night. If she is chatting to a female, it could just be a good friend who can’t sleep either and is just having general conversation. If she’s chatting to a male on a regular basis and that male is also just a friend, there probably is a problem with her happiness in the marriage and she is spilling her beans to this guy, or, the guy she is chatting to is close to or already having an affair with her and obviously is more than a friend. She could also be having sexual identity problems. There is a reason why she is not sleeping soundly through the night and there could be numerous reasons for that. The internet has made it too easy for people to cheat, not saying she is but technology or not, if a person isn’t happy in a marriage or another kind of relationship, he or she needs to communicate with their partner to really get to the root of the problem and not give in to the tempting evilness of the internet.
