JPG Compression Tool / Program...?
Hi everyone…I have been posting here since I joined in 2004. I was over 40,000 posts. There was a problem with a rogue moderator that I know many of you know about. He deleted everything I had done for many years. Then I rejoined as “IJH” for a while. No bitterness…water under the bridge. I would like to get to posting again. There was a computer crash a while back and I lost some programs.
Here’s the poop…! I really enjoy posting on OCC. I strive to put up the best quality and on-topic JPGs that I can. One of my goals has been to make the downloading from my posts a pleasurable experience. Fast downloading is important to me. I lost my compression tool with my last computer crash. My desire has been to compress to 50% to 75%...while having the best quality. So searching the WEB I have not found anything that is simple and easy to use. I hope someone has an idea, a program, or someplace to send me for an easy to use compression tool / program. Looking forward to posting again…GleanMan OH…Thanks |

Irfanview
I have used Irfanview (which is free) to do batch conversion between wierd and wonderful image formats. But I haven't used it to to do batch upscale or downscale. Lookup Irfanview batch conversion for details. I'm assuming you are using Windows, I don't know if there are versions for Apple or Linux.

If that's true, DO NOT COMPRESS!!! I strive to download the best quality and how long can it take to download a jpeg in 2024 anyway. Do people really want them compressed?

If you are unsure, you can test some of this in a couple of ways:
1 post a few of your "huge" pics (in the Test area if you want) and ask for speed comments. 2 Work out the average size the pictures wou want to share. Download some sample pictures from others and note their size and download times. If others are posting pictures of similar size to yours, without speed complaints, then ... |

That’s the nail on the head and I now am sure you are correct. Looking back, I think the downloading speed complaints came in many years ago when some folks were still on dial-up DSL or the like. I will now post things as found. I will no longer be wasting my time compressing. Hoping to get caught up on some crap and get to posting again soon. As found…NO COMPRESSING…!
Thanks for opening my eyes,,,GleanMan |

Thanks for the input... I have posted way over 1,000 pictures in the last 2 weeks. I'm wondering how they look and download on your end. These are all original as-is...no compression. Surely saves time not compressing everything. Been posting here for 20 years...those complaints must have been 2 decades ago. Cow Shit I Know? CRS. Wondering...let me know. |
