body art in the streets of Ukraine

There seems to be a couple of annual festivals in the Ukraine involving body art that take place in the streets. I could be wrong, but perhaps there are separate festivals in Kiev and Odessa. The general search term I've been using so far is "ukrainian body art festival".

Anyway, these festivals are topless only (which may not suit everyone's taste) but I think they suffer from underexposure on the net. Pics tend to be distinctive and show beautiful, statuesque models in dilapidated, urban surroundings. Recently I posted some pics in my naturist thread, and Aaron_IL also posted a few in his painted thread. Otherwise, there is nothing at OCC that I know of.

So.....I will post what I have on my hard drive, what I recently acquired in threads, and then say......lets get some more pics up (Pennywiseguy, 69|69 - are you listening)! In particular, there is a need for hi res images from the "hand holding in the streets" shown in pic 1. Also, I just like the idea of this festival, being a very public one, and obviously featuring very beautiful women throughout.

more. Note I am purposely putting up a lot of low res images because that is about all that I have! The idea is to give you a sense for what is possible, what the event looks like, and coax out more and better pics! This is a very public display of boobs, and I want to get a sense for the numbers that participate as the parade looks to be quite large.

Again, I do not know which are from Kiev and which are from Odessa, or even if in fact there are two separate events!!

Now you see - what on earth is going on that there are so many photographers here and NO PICS OF THIS LARGE GROUP OF PAINTED PEOPLE ON THE NET!!

these I just pulled off the web, and are pretty nice. The album says these are from Odessa.

You can see why I sort of have a fascination with this event and want to learn more. There is a "Fremontesque" quality to all of this, being urban (With that rundown, communist era architecture as a backdrop) and involving so many people.

I'm especially interested in pics from the parade itself. You would think it would be well photographed by locals. If it was held in my city, it would be a major tick on my calendar...

I have amassed quite a few pics from body art events worldwide, and these are the only large, annual festivals I know of that take place in broad daylight in an urban street. That possibly makes this and Fremont the most public of body art events out there..

One final note: I once knew the Russian language term for "body art". I no longer know that off hand, but as a search term, it was great. I mean, there was a flood of stuff coming across...

I am really just learning about this festival. Here is a shot blurb that mentions 25,000 spectators and 324 painted bodies. This is pretty major and why I am devoting a thread to this....

Devolanivsky Uzviz was the venue of the rather frivolous festival which attracted 25 thousand spectators and journalists who enjoyed a colourful show of young bodies that offered themselves to be turned into living, and walking, and posing objets d’art. 106 artists from 16 cities of Ukraine and from several countries of the former Soviet Union decorated 324 beautiful models with bold and polychromatic designs, employing their imagination to the full. The human body is not a canvas and, on the one hand, imposes certain limitations upon the artist who paints his or her picture on it, but on the other, offers three-dimensional possibilities, which a flat canvas cannot provide. To give the body-art artists a general direction to follow, a motto was devised — The Whole World is the Theatre.

some more pics. Mostly these are coming from Odessa, and so I am wondering if Kiev even has one.

Again, note the resemblance to Fremont in some of these pics.

EDIT: It appears that the Kiev festival, which has a similar name to the one in Odessa, is held indoors in February. So perhaps the only outdoor one is in Odessa, and so all these pics are from there only.

Ah, this is more like it! The link where these pics came from call it the "Carnival of body art in Odessa", and we have bigger pics of the entire hand holding sequence.

In pic three (check the background), I see now why they call it the "Uk-crane" (heh, heh.........heh.........heh?..........)
