Private Message Limit

Just curious - why is there a limit to private messages stored - which are essentially text and dont take up much space - but there seems to be no limit on creating photo galleries which can take up a lot more space.

Its not a big deal. Ive just always been curious

I think it’s to prevent spam. Otherwise new people could register and send out a bunch of bogus links to people’s PM boxes.

I for one would like to see this limit extended to something more comfortable like a few hundred - I like to keep messages from friends, and there isn't a convenient exporting mechanism that preserves metadata...

I dont think itd help prevent spam. All the user would have to do is delete the messages.

The 1-minute wait between sending is a better spam filter than a message limit

We have multiple tools in place to try to prevent SPAM. Unfortunately it's a never ending battle.

Once a member contributes a small amount to the the forum and proves they are not a SPAMMER or a bot, the PM limit is raised to 50.
